I have an AA Car Genie plugged into the OBD socket on my 2016 car, it monitors car status of fault codes & battery voltage & reports on a phone app. It uses the cars own systems for its signals & the cars voltage monitoring is flaky to say the least. With voltage showing on dash it fluctuates a lot whilst driving even when no change in load. With engine off voltage shown is consistently low when checked with a voltmeter. I can get an alert on the Genie saying battery voltage very low under 11.5V & it will still start.
Smart chargers & battery tenders will likely have an absorption/desulphate function either automatic or manual which can help to recover a dead or failing battery.

So my original battery survived lockdown but today I tried to instal the Yuasa battery I bought from Halfords back in April. And you guessed it - it doesn’t bloody fit! 2cm too tall, so the plastic cover won’t sit right and it may even foul the bonnet.
Will try to take it back tomorrow after 4 months.
It was the one that comes up via my registration on their app and is the HSB 013. Height Is 19cm - originals is only 17cm. Beware!

Cheers
David

No problem getting my money back from Halfords despite having the battery in my boot for 4 months!

So next question - Where can you get a decent battery that does fit?

e.g. At least 62Ah and 620A cranking but no more than 17cm tall.

Cheers

I ordered a battery off Amazon, fulfilled by Tanya Batteries, it was a Bosch S4 Battery Type 075 and set me back £81 delivered. Didn’t think that was bad at all. I was careful to measure as the Halfords site was a bit vague.

Tayna list the Bosch S4 075 as having round taper terminals, my 2016 car has bolted terminals, +ve on right viewed from front of car. Amazon dont specify terminals.

Over weekend I ordered batteries from Euro Parts, originally ordered the wrong one as it recommends both 027 and 075.

Bosch S5 027 was ÂŁ76 but is too tall so had to return that but the Bosch S5 075 was the right fit and ÂŁ107 after "40% off sale code" which basically just reveals the actual price, has worked fine since. Thought I'd probably be better to do it now rather than wait untill the winter and it dies.
