How does a tune effect the drive modes?

Hey guys, I am trying to weigh the pros and cons of getting a tune on my 15. One of the questions I haven't been able to find the answer to is, how does getting a tune effect the drive modes on the car? I like how the throttle response and feel of the car changes as you switch between them. Does the tune preserve these functions? Does the tune only really take effect when you are in track mode or does it add power in all modes but they still have the same characteristics as before? Just wanting to see exactly how it will work. I've had many cars with canned or custom tunes before but none of them have had the drive modes and stuff the new cars have. Thanks for your help.
