pffffft…that ain’t no lanai, you don’t live in Hawaii, that’s a frickin patio (or a deck if you live up north) if I’ve ever seen one!

This will always be a question in FL, as many move from northern/western states and have different understandings. We moved from the north and my wife keeps calling our screened enclosure a lanai, even though it is not. (Truth be told, she just loves the sound of the word lanai.) From an insurance standpoint the better one is the covered porch that @NGOT8R is showing. It offers more substantial protection from hurricane force winds. Screen it in to protect you from insects it would be a screened porch. Based that and the concrete pad @NGOT8R has, he will either have a screened porch and a Florida screened enclosure, or a screened porch and a screened lanai.

To me, it’s a screened in porch, but most Floridians call it a lanai, so I just roll with it to avoid any confusion.

My wife calls ours a lanai because the builder did. It is fun to say.

It’s like saying bedspread or comforter, one sounds fancier or more elegant, lol. All I see is a slab of concrete, some screen and framing, lol.

This week ended on a really good note! All countertops and the furnace were installed. Today was also the first time we were able to test and see what the lights in the master closet looked like.
