One thing I'll miss about driving my Subaru in the nicer months is the horn. When someone's distracted on their phone or just day dreaming at a stop sign it never fails to make people jump and shit or get off the pot!

Ford's horns just don't have the same effect. Not as tame as a bike bell but if I want more oomph when communicating....what are my options for the S550?

I thought about an electronic air horn but I think those require more parts and wiring than just a horn.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Seriously? Mine is fairly loud and very easy to hear... Stock Subie horns were garbage. Now if your upgrade to the Hella horns..those were loud!

Honk some ridiculous train horn and see if I don't sit there even longer.

I used this air horn on some previous cars. Very loud.

I actually saw a guy that did that. It was in a box truck and he had a bunch of other equipment to make it function but it was basically the same as an actual train horn. He sold flags for a living and may have had a screw loose but I jumped when he hit it!

So yes, you might sit there but you also might need new shorts and a good fabric cleaner.

I know how they sound. I think the vids of people scaring the hell out of others with it are funny. I also know if someone wailed one of those to get me to move, I will purposely sit there for a long ass time.

I put a duel frequency air horn in my first car. 1997 Ford Explorer Sport. The stock horn on it was pitiful.

They're really not that hard to install. You just have to find a place to mount the air pump and the horn. Then wire it using your existing horn wiring.

There are lots of options available.

Take a look.

I think the horn on my mustang is plenty loud. Though, I generally tell people I'm upset with them with my exhaust as I pass them. :-D

Get a GM 4 note horn, that'll make people move.

.

Those train and boat horns are highly illegal to have on your car. If you pull that crap around police, you're looking at a ticket.

Putting a train or boat horn on your car would be illegal. There are air horns that are made for cars that aren't nearly as loud as those two. Though, you would need to look at your local laws to determine if you would be breaking any.

I agree *completely*. The OE horns are lackluster to say the least. In fact, my horn is slightly defective, in that if I lean on it for more than a cuppla seconds, one of the diaphragms becomes almost a buzzing instead of a blaring. The result is a VERY sick-sounding wheeze! Sure I can - and likely will - have it replaced under warranty, but even at its best it's pretty boring.

That said, I am not looking to mimic a transcontinental freight train, nor do I want to sound like a Datsun. But it's interesting that you have posted this, because I have spent the last week or so researching/auditioning replacements...and I have found the perfect one.

Manufactured by PIAA, it is model #85115.

A decent price, essentially the same space requirements, no exotic wiring needed, and delivering outstanding domestic aural goodness. IMO.

* * Update * *
I have just purchased this unit BNSIOP for alot less than the typical online price. :first: If you're keen - PM me.

On my vehicle(s) I have slightly different rules/laws to go in PA by due to being a first responder. So putting a significantly louder horn/electronic air horn/etc. has never been an issue for anyone at my station.

Now in your AO, laws might be different.
