So I rarely use my horn but I needed to the other day and nothing happened. When I got home I tried pushing it. No matter how hard I slam the pony, it does not honk. If I push on the top, it also does not honk. But it honks just fine if I push on the left or right sides where the horn logo is, and also works if I push on the bottom.
Is this normal or is something broken? I don't like it, as my gut is to just mash the center of the steering wheel for the horn, like every car I've had before. I am just wondering if this is how it is supposed to be or if there is something wrong with mine and I should take it in.

Yes. From my experience the whole cover is floated so you technically can press anywhere on the cover to make the connection.

I have noticed this too. Its also like that on my 99 Expedition. I have always assumed they made it like that to discourage people from slamming on the airbag.

I've noticed mine being more difficult to honk lately too, shouldn't be that hard to press.

Mine does this too. I couldn't get the car into the dealer before 36K to have it addressed so it remains. It's off and on, really. Sometimes it just won't work. Other times, works. Just another tick in the "really no excuse for this" quality column.

C'mon guys...did you have it fixed. What was the problem. This thread is no good without a fix!!!

It's actually a SERIOUS safety issue.

I was researching horn button issues on website. The owner died? Oh man, didnt know.

Anthony
I’m teasing, but resurrecting old threads is a peeve for many around here. These guys appear to have had their horns fixed/replaced under warranty. You’ve modified your steering wheel so good luck getting warranty work. But for real, you probably need a new clock spring

Oh ok, thanks for heads up..... and link for part! Appreciate it!
damn on clock spring, do you think that would have an effect on airbag deployment?

Thanks Anthony
