Well, the inevitable has happened. I had a low speed impact with a small kangaroo this morning - no visible damage (phew!) but the hood deployed.

I'm thinking of replacing the hinges with US spec hinges given that the active hood is a European requirement, not Australian.

Anyone see any issues?

Apologies if this has been discussed, can't get search to work on my mobile.

Lucky Kangaroo, just imagine the outcome had there been no exploding bonnet hinge. :headbonk:

I always worry if an insurer might ping you. I've never had to claim on insurance so not sure how deeply they go into looking for ways to void the agreement.

It is just an EU safety rating component, not even legally required in EU either.

So removing them will not be in breach of any AU vehicle standards, only safety rating, that for pedestrian protection... and roos.

One question though, Will you need to remove the modules and what warning lights or codes will it throw up? Check now while it has been set off and see if there is anything showing up via OBDII scan

Here, in the States, we hit deer, most often. Sometimes, people will hit a moose, a large dog, whatever. In Australia, you hit kangaroos.

I know I've not added anything of substance to the conversation, but it's just too funny!

Good luck with fixing the car!

Lucky kangaroo that he got away before I could inflict some serious damage! I really do hate the things - they hop around in mobs of 50 or so, eat my grass, wreck my fences, try and drown my dog and attack my cars. Most hits have been them running into the side of the vehicle but they've killed a few radiators too. I've known blowflies smarter than most kangaroos. It doesn't matter how slow you are going either if they've got cover to ambush you from. I swear the one yesterday darted out 20m in front of me. What I need is one of those target tracking air defence miniguns that will convert them to a red mist whenever they get too close.

Disconnecting the actuators may cause the airbag light to illuminate, as they would form part of the restraints system - you'd have to check that first I reckon.

Drop bears are native to Australia and are known to only attack female Swedish backpackers.
Here is evidence of the existence of drop bears:

We've had trouble on stretch of road near a caravan park where the owners let people feed the fuckers!? After many crashes and some people nearly killed they stopped doing it. Dickheads!!!!
