I agree completely with you there. I bet I spent 3 hours just doing those 5 honeycombs. That included looking for tools and such.. Felt like I started a workout program the following day lol
Me too. I sat in a chair and held the grill down with my left arm and sanded with my right. I bruised my left arm and right leg, and i do not bruise easily lol.

Would it be better to start with a coarse grit, like 40 or 80?

All I want to do is remove the Intake honeycomb.. can this be done from the back side without removing the bumper?

I dremeled mine a while back with no ill effects. If I remember right there's now twice as many holes open as before. I drilled a hole in each section, and then used a bit to dremel out the major portion of the hole. After that I touched things up things with an Exacto knife. Then I took some very fine grit sandpaper to polish where needed to look OEM. I put masking tape along the walls of the honeycomb in case I flubbed. I also took a rubber cap, drilled a hole in it and placed it over the collet on the Dremel to also protect the walls.

I tried the sander route...took ages. Then I got sick of it and cut it off, just like 2mm of it, done is less than an hour, counting my drive to harbor freight to get the tools.

Uh oh....apparently the honeycomb not being opened all the way provides aero in turns...so much in fact that for the 2018, Ford reduced drag at the grill using active grill shutters....

http://www.automobilemag.com/news/ford-touts-improved-aero-2018-mustangs-facelift/

Ford says that active grille shutters standard among ’18 Mustangs not equipped with the Performance Pack, reduce drag by completely closing off the grille, sending air over and around the car, instead of through it.
