Hey everyone kind of an obscure situation I’m having here as I have done copious googling with no relevant results…

I’ve got a 2018 GT350 which I just took out to the track for a light track day for the first time since owning it. When the car started to get hot, I was getting an audible hissing (best way I can think to describe it) coming from the front left corner when taking left turns pretty hard.

I thought it might have been something rubbing but I removed the wheel, checked for anything rubbing, but there seems to be clearance everywhere. Then I thought it might have been a vacuum leak or a loose hose and everything seems to be in tact.

has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks!

Tire pressure too low?

Is it a fast light ticking/rattle? The two piece rotors are floating and held by a number of pins so they can expand with heat.. its common to hear them making noise when cornering.

No it’s more of like a sustained hissing sound. It honestly sounds just like when you pull the valve core on a tire to let air out, but my pressures were not dropping. Maybe the tire isn’t seated properly and just slightly leaking in cornering but the pressure is increasing with heat? I have no idea lol

Anything hanging in the wheel well or under the car? Seems like could be some plastic dragging. Its not your tire.

Not that I can see, might be the front splitter getting super low in cornering? I’ll try to get my buddy to take a look next track day

If so the splitter will have signs of scraping on the bottom. Get under there and in the wheel wells and look around. Sounds like that are not normal. And rubbing isnt good for whatever it is.

I ran into a similar issue 2 years ago on a Shelby Mountain Run. It was the first time that I did any "spririted" driving with it. I believe that it was the tire rubbing on the rock guard. There is little room under heavy loading/cornering and I have no suspension upgrades

Your description sounds almost exactly what I was experiencing. I spoke with several others and the tire rubbing on the rock guard that was our best guess. Never had any issues or problems, but it sure was strange when you heard it.

Just checked the wheel well a little more in depth and it’s definitely a wheel rubbing issue. Thanks for the advice!! I’ve got some stiffer springs sitting in my garage from Steeda that I’ve been meaning to install so maybe this will fix it. Thanks!

What rims and tires are you running? The GT350 has a lot of space in the front wheel wells so nothing should be touching anything.

A piece of the wheel well was loose and was scraping. I’m on a stock setup right now, but will be switching to a dedicated track/autocross setup once I get the tires mounted to the wheels I’ve got. I have apex 19x11’s and a square 305/30r19 setup of Bridgestone re71rs’s that I will be using

Yeah, that'll do it... It just didn't seem sensible that something would rub if the stock parts were still in place and intact.
