I can either run: 315/30/18 r888r or 305/30/18 re71r

The use is for time attack in Canada. Zero street use. And I'm only choosing between these two options.

The Toyos will be faster, they are a true R compound tire vs. the Bridgestones which are a street tire (albeit a very very good street tire).

I wouldn't be so sure about tha .

Have to consider a few things
1. Tread width
2. Tire height (and any gearing changes)
3. Wheel width.

Pretty sure. He specifically gave tire sizes for each of the 2 choices...so there's not much guessing for #1 and #2. The tiny difference in width and height between a 315/30 and 305/30 is not going to make a big difference. If anything, the Toyo is wider so will technically have even more grip. And for #3, it's assuming that he's going to have the same set of wheels for either of his choices, so no difference there.

If he had asked which tire is faster I would agree that there's no way to tell really as 315 RE71R would be faster than a 215 RRR8R. But those are pretty much identical sized tires, just 2 different compounds.

RE71R's are going to get greasy quicker, in Time Attack you'll need to be a one lap wonder and hope for a clear track because you're not going to get a lot of laps at the limit.

You don't think Tire compound has anything to do with it?

My 305/30/19 RE71R produce better lap times than my 305/35/18 NT01. Same track, same weather.

Also,

Oh yeah, BTW, there is no such size as 305/30/18 RE71R so....

I do, which is why I said given 2 pretty identical sized tires the differentiating factor will be in the tire compound itself, which the Toyo is faster.

I'm not surprised, NT01s are not exactly a fast or true R compound tire, and yes compared to those the RE71Rs will be faster. But I'm pretty sure he wasn't asking about the NT01

You do realize the R888R and the NT01 have the same tread compound and are pretty much the same tire, correct? Not a True R compound?

Ok I'm out.

Doesn't take into account the fact that a 305/30/18 RE71R doesnt exist, though right?

Negatory. The only street legal tires quicker than the RE71R are the Goodyear 3R (barely) and the Pirelli Trofeo R. In autocross circles the Yoko A052 and BFG Rival S 1.5 are more or less equals of the RE71R. The RE71R is rated as a 200TW but it really more like 80-100, relative to other brands.

I made a typo. I did mean 305/30/19 RE71R
