Heat shield Tank???!!!!????

Was installing my vertical links and noticed this thing. Was like WTF is this.
I've been having some odd banging sound when driving and I think it is this thing because one side is broke off.

Normally I would think a under car spoiler is not necessary. lol
But then I googled the part number and so heat shield for the gas tank.

So is it ok if I keep it off?

Well, I can't put it back. I guess the previous owner hit something one side it ripped off. Hence where I think the noise is coming from.

I meant buy another and install in case its needed.

Yeah, I just was wondering if it was needed. Seems like a very odd part and I could seeing it being ripped off again when I lower the car.
