Was there an option on headlights? If so how do we know the type we have?

No options on headlights.

As already stated - 15-17 models have Xenon HIDs and 18+ is LED.

However a difference in headlights is the export version of the 15-17 does have the tri bars in the headlights but they aren't illuminated. How Ford figured that should be the way to go must be a forever mystery.

Also a minor difference in the 18+ headlights is the US model has orange reflectors while the exports has white.

I also heard that some of the light options have a flat beam cut off, but I can confirm my euro lights have a kick up that is specific to RHD :like:

That's required by EU regulations.

In EU it is required to have "asymetric light" to light op the road further in the side of the road you're driving to be able to see pedestrians or other "soft objects in traffic"

Left is flat beam - right is asymmetric

Also for 15-17 cars, HIDs of a certain lightoutput require Headlight washers and auto-leveling. That's why ford put in some lower powered ones in the european cars. (not required for LED)

And due to some visibility regulations 15-17 had no illuminated tri-bars in the headlight (which could be reprogrammed in if you like living in the danger zone) for 18+ Ford EU was involved more thanks to the unexpected high sales.

I can tell you from experience that if your stock bulb is 35 watts and you install 55 watts it will cause damage in the long term. Ask me how I know.
