does the A/C have to be on for the cooled seats to work? Otherwise where does the cooling come from?

Cooled seats are just fans blowing through the perforated leather. It's not actually being cooled by AC. That is how almost all cooled seats are, but maybe Ford put an AC vent under the seat on these... :p

Pretty sure there's a peltier in there, it gets pretty cold.

Not true; it's actively cooled seating by use of a Peltier element. Same one that heats the seats.

Have you tried doing it via Sync vs the actually buttons?
I haven't used SYNC for the climate / seat controls at all. That feels unnatural, using a touch screen for anything but Navigation.

I popped my trunk open while on the highway. I was trying to open the sunglass holder.

I am TERRIFIED of doing this. It's actually forced me to only use the sunglass holder when I'm stopped and can look around the steering wheel to catch a look at what I'm hitting.

There should be an interlock that prevents the trunk from opening while you're moving. I carry a LOT of emergency tools around in my trunk and I wouldn't want them flying out onto the road just because I had to grab my sunglasses.

They make it feel like you're sitting on a towel over a bunch of ice packs. Really work great.
Hahaha! my thoughts exactly!!! It feels kinda... Wet!
I'm sure I'll be loving them when it actually gets warmer out in Michigan!
