I’ve had just about everything, three times lol. Whatever you decide will be awesome! Just don’t settle on color, go cheap on mods (fuel, OPG’s etc) or buy crappy tires.
Ok, guess its time to go into the savings!!

You may be able to avoid that by buying low mileage already built cars (from older owners preferably).

Depends on what your wallet looks like. It always comes down to money. If you can, you will! (Peaky Blinders reference here).

You can get a new S550 for a decent price. Why buy someone else's dream? There are so many differences between the body styles that it just makes good sense to go something current.

My 2021 came with 8 km on it right from a dealership 3000km away. A year later I've got 750hp where the GT500 you are looking at is 662. That being said I've spent probably 20-25k on the vehicle on top of sticker but that is slightly less than the cost of a pre-pandemic new GT500.
dont rule out a procharged gen 3 they run very well

I would go with the GT500 if you plan to keep it and are under 60 years old.

I can only tell you what I know and have: My '16 Roush Stage 1 'vert, with a Magnaflow cat back exhaust, is ridiculous hilarious fun. I found it last August 1,000 miles from home with 11k miles on it, at a bargain price. Flew there and drove it home and have put another 7k on it. My only regret is that no tracks will allow it on without a cage.

It really depends on what you are trying to get out of the car.

The s197 is pretty dated compared to the s550, the s550 has alot more creature comforts, also the gen 2/ 3 coyote motors are very stout and can make pretty much whatever power you want, build the motor and the skys the limit, there is A LOT of parts out there for the s550s, several companies support and will continue to support this for a long time.

The "Shelby" aspect of things has its own appeal. The 5.8 in my opinion sounds amazing. It is a great car, the last stick gt500, the value will hold and go up as these cars are iconic! The aftermarket is huge for the gt500 as well and you can make great power with them as well.

Personally if it were me and I was trying to get a car I can take out on nice days and blast down the road or drag strip and build, it's hard to beat a gen 2/3 with a tvs/ whipple and e 85 but, if you do not want to mod the car and just want something out of the box with a blower and is a great platform, the GT500 is a no brainer

I also found out the hard way don't listen to anyone on horsepower numbers as the dyno always tells the truth get your car on the dyno before any mods, then when your done and maybe a few steps along the way

I would say get the S550 and put a S/C on it. But ultimately its gonna boil down to your tastes.
