GT350 vs Hellcat: different class or competitors?

It does one thing faster? There is faster in a straight line. Then there is faster around curves. Winning PCOTY matters almost as much as the 2016 Camaro winning motor trends car of the year. No one is calling the Mustang a game changer anymore than the Z28 was before it. Your argument is just as logical as the post your trying to pick apart.:shrug:

The Z/28 isn't even in this conversation and is a better, more suitable competitor to the 350 than the HC.

I would beg to differ that the 350 is the gamechanger of ALL pony cars yet... Anybody can slap a force-induction system or a put a good suspension and CC brakes, but how many have ever put a FPC in one?

I think the Hellcat idea is really cool and I love some of the touches Dodge put on the car - intakes in the lights are a neat idea. This thread was originally posted in the GT350 part of the site, so the people there tend to be biased away from straight line cruisers. If you want to eliminate the brand differences that always irritate people, I would for instance have a similar reaction to a GT500 vs. GT350 comparison. I never really wanted a GT500. I do think engines making lots of power are fun, but just not as desirable for me as something that is a bit more balanced. And the flat plane crank might be a little gimmicky, but ever since I heard about it I wanted it.

FPC isn't new technology anymore than the other things you mentioned. It's not like Ford invented the design. Only GM fans called CC brakes a game changer when the Z28 had them first. Even though they could be matched by a good set of old fashioned steel brakes. But this is a moot point to the thread. I thing everyone can agree. The Hellcat and 350 were built with different purposes and tracks in mind when originally designed.

Excellent point, Hack. How does the HC compare to the GT500, other than an obvious difference in raw horsepower?

Sorry But you are wrong..NO way in any mag has the Hell cat done 0-60 in 2.9 sec. A buddy of mine as one and he could never get under 5 sec ..tires just spin. My M5 Sport stays neck and neck with him...

The Hell cat is fun no doubt, but totally a different car than the GT350

I hit 4.0 secs to 60 mph in my 392/SRT many times. Usually its about 4.2-4.3. The HC will do 3.3-3.5 all day if launched properly.

The car is big but handles well. I no longer race on tracks anymore. The US doesn't have a lot of curvy roads (I lived in Italy for 8 years and drove cars that were good on twisty roads there). Especially where I live.

The Challenger is a great car for US roads.

I tried to get the Hellcat aggressively, though wouldn't pay a markup on it. Funny enough two days before my GT350 delivery, I received a text message stating that they would sell me the Hellcat at MSRP. Too late, I was excited about the GT350. I think the GT350 is a better car for my needs, though I change cars often and would have loved to try the Hellcat out for a while. Perhaps I would have gotten a bit bored with it in a shorter time frame than I will with the Shelby - but I also think that a factory car like the Hellcat is something for us all to praise. Let's keep Chevy, Dodge and Ford fighting to make even more impressive cars. Frankly, I'm driving from the Bay Area to Phoenix this weekend and I won't be taking the GT350. Maybe if I had the Hellcat I'd pick that over my Explorer Sport. Seems like a great american GT car!

Hell cats will sixty like a mofo! I raced several last fall. Beating the manuals and getting spanked by the auto Hellcats. I raced one that I got a 4 lenth jump on. Totally treed the guy! And he cought me by half track on his way to an 11.3@125 on stock tires.I was on drag radials and my sixty was only a tenth better. Me-1.7ish. Him 1.8ish!

I agree here as well. Our 6.1L SRT hits 0-60 in about those same times...average 4.3-4.5. Then again, it has the advantage of all wheel drive. Jeep.

The GT500 slightly beat it to 60 and lost just slightly in the 1/4 mile during C&D's comparison. The Hellcat's 707 horsepower really becomes more of an advantage if you are running at higher speeds (beyond what is street legal). At street legal speeds it isn't that much faster than other cars in the 400+ hp range, even in a straight line.
