I wasn't calling people that want the FPC engine elitist. I actually fall in that club myself. I was saying that the people who think the 1LE isn't going to be competitive on the track with the GT350 for not much of a reason other than they like the Mustang best were being elitist.

I totally understand wanting a car because you think it's cooler, but that doesn't make it the fastest. It's a much more interesting and exciting car than any Camaro, no matter what the numbers are.

Have you driven one? Do you value the visceral aspect of driving a car? It has nothing to do with being an elitist and everything to do with fully enjoying the car. Ford went out of their way to create something unique and absolutely hit it out of the park.
I like this car, too. Hell, I'd daily-drive a GT350R if it was possible to get A/C and a basic FM/CD setup in it. I need the A/C because heat stress is never very far away for me any more.

From a technical standpoint, dual clutch type transmissions (PDK/DCT/etc) are the most efficient way to change a gear, that doesn't mean I want one for this car?
Nor would I either. In any car that I might seriously consider buying.

And if you don't car about the logo on the engine, why do you care about what others compare it to?
If this car is as good as it's been pitched to be - and I agree that it probably is - it doesn't need to be basking in the image of a true exotic. Any more than I should go around bragging that my '08 GT is "GT350-like" because I sometimes have 11" wide wheels on it (wider fronts than the non-R GT350, actually). See what I'm saying here?

It is kinda sad that we are even comparing a gt350 to a regular camaro ss here. If Ford had the weights right on the s550's, we wouldn't even have this thread. Instead it would be mustang gttp vs camaro 1le.
I'd give you that if Ford had ended up with better GTPP shocks, struts, tires, and wheels. But they stopped short, probably to avoid complaints over ride quality being too firm for people who didn't fully understand what "track pack" might really mean.

I've always maintained that the GTPP was never aimed exactly at the same audience as the 1LE. Chevy spokesmen claimed that the 1LE was a 2-percenter's car. By that yardstick, the GTPP is more like a 25-percenter's car. 255/40's on 9" and 275/40's on 9.5" is well below what the last generation 1LE wore (285/35's on 10" & 11"). Granted, more people would find the less-aggressive setup acceptable, but that also means that Ford ceded the hardcore end of their GT's mainstream trim to the competition without so much as a whimper. And that bothers me.

The "regular" GT350 is obviously the trim aimed specifically at the 1LE, and the GT350R is in the Z/28's league.

It will definitely be a great bang for the buck car with numbers that don't lie I'm sure for 99% of us, the driver will be the limiting factor, not the car. I think some folks just get way to wrapped up in the numbers alone when comparing cars

I agree. If it was feasible for me to get a GT350 right now, you could bet I'd be standing in line for one.

The 1le is not going to come close to touching a track pack or R.

Once again. Until the car is out there's no comparison.

I'm not saying it will but it may surprise people.

Edit: I really don't see the 1LE winning. Just playing devils advocate.

Time stands still for no one. You could wait for the 1LE to come out and the next best thing or the next.

Get what you will be happy with for the price you can live with and enjoy.

I wouldn't count out this 1LE against the 350. People...and I was one of them...did the same thing with ZL1 vs GT500. I was rooting for the Cobra and was very disappointed when it was lacking in the brakes, stability and suspension department compared to the ZL1.

I'm a 5th Gen 1LE owner. I saw the new 1LE at the Chicago Auto Show last week. I love the changes. Looks more sculpted and athletic. It's comparable to what happened with the C6 to C7 Corvettes.

Best part about the GT350 is the restyled front end. Less Fusion..more aggression. The car looks like it has fangs...haha

Only on a race track would that have mattered. And even then it depends on the driver's skill. Admittedly the GT500 would be harder to tame.

But street performance isnt even close, the 4000lbs ZL1 wasnt a match for the 38xxlbs GT500. I wonder how much faster a GT500 would have been with a 6R80?
