GT350 vs Camaro 1LE

Not sure if it'll be irrelevant. Sure the Z/28 will probably be better but the 350 has something special that no other American auto manufacture has. THAT ENGINE. It is just so different and so unique and due to the impending EPA emission, will probably be the last high HP N/A Mustang. I whole heartedly believe the Mustang would not be where it was if the Camaro hadn't set the bench so high especially the Z/28. I cannot tel you how much respect I have for that car but by saying that Ford Performance is not serious. Man I just cannot get behind that.

I'm a Mustang guy for life, but the new Camaro is extremely impressive. The new Camaro SS blows the doors off the new Mustang GT. The last 1LE was quicker around a track than a Boss 302 (and will be signficantly quicker than the new GT). I guess whether or not you should be worried comes down to what you intend to do with the car. If you're a straight line guy, the new Camaro SS is probably as quick as the GT350 and the 1LE will be quicker, still. Around a road course, I think the 350 will be quicker, but not by much. Once a new Z/28 comes out, the 350 will probably be irrelevant.

Idk, I'm thinking this 1LE might just get passed a regular gt350 on the track. Leave the R model for the next z28.

Yeah that's my fear as well... I kinda have that gut feeling that GM will drop the LT4 into the next ZL1 or Z/28. Not excited about that... I'd rather have them reveal an all-motor powerplant in the next Z/28, if it even happens at all.

Maybe if the Zora concept proves to be real, that powerplant could make it's way to the Camaro. That could be new, as we know that the Z06 was intended to have a high-revving motor but had an issue with emissions. The work could be focused and continued for the Zora.

The 1LE package is $3500 which would put the discount price of $38K. You can't get PDR on a mustang in any flavor. You can't get mag ride on a base 350.
Like I said the GT500 can't come soon enough to compete with the Z/28 soon to hit the market or ZL1.

According to Camaro 6 gen, it is not $3500. The 5th Gen 1LE was, but because they added magnetic ride and Recaro's as standard, they are saying $7k is the estimated package price.

I think the struggle for Ford is they now NEED to upgrade the 5.0. The 2016 Mustang GT Performance Pack is down 20 horsepower, 55 lb.-ft. of torque and now the Camaro 1LE features many of the same features that the GT350 does (magnetic shocks, limited slip, etc.).

Given that the Mustang got heavier when they changed over to the IRS and Camaro has gotten lighter, I think Ford really needs to give the GT a boost in performance.

The problem, though, is that how do they do it and not infringe on the GT350? Would the GT350 still be worth the heavy premium if the 5.0 was upgraded to say, 475hp/450 torque?

Most likely. Brakes are a very major weight tax once you start adding it up.

350TP is slower than the Z51 around Willow Springs.

Corvette C7 Z51: 1:33.2
Mustang GT350: 1:34.5

Just because the next best thing(not that this is) comes along who cares? Does that impact how much you enjoy your own car? If so, that sucks as they are literally always coming out with new cars.

You need to buy what is best for you. Budget is my main concern. The 1LE offers a budget beast that will easily double the MPG of the Voodoo. That is not really a concern for most in this segment, but for those guys that want to save for early retirement and financial freedom while also being able to enjoy a car they can track, this 1LE is a great value as it will pull DD duty EXTREMELY well, which is rare in track focused cars. This reduces the need for a DD to supplement the track focused, gas guzzling beast that the Voodoo is.

The next GT500 will compete with the next track Camaro , call it whatever you want. The 350 is yesterday's track car. Just like the Boss 302 because the boys over @ GM are serious.
The new chassis will give GM so many more options to engineer one hell of a track car. The Corvette will not stand in the way of the next Camaro. This ride should be great for Ford and Chevy.

With that old 1955 style pushrod engine, no matter what the Chevy engineers do they will never make N.A.100hp per litre. The last Z/28 Camaro 7.0L engine only made 505hp and got smoke by a 5.2 L GT350.
That is why the sales are poor on G6 Camaro.

No it didn't. Also, I think the Voodoo commands more respect than being compared to SUCH an old engine like the LS7. That being said, the fact the LS7 is SO great that it is still relevant today does command a great deal of respect though.

Who gives a crap about HP/Liter anyway? All that matters is how an engine performs.

And just so you know, 5.0 engine design is not much newer than push-rod.....just something fanbois like to say.

That's a valid point. Not like we can go out there and see what the GT350 does on the track. Only the R has a time, and its one time on one track.
