I know the GT350 is not designed to be a drag car but I've noticed it's only a few tenths quicker than regular GTs even though it has more torque and almost a hundred more horses. My guess is that it's limited by lack of launch traction. And for that matter I'm guessing the regular GT is also traction-limited. Am I on the right track or is there some other power-to-weight deficiency?

just guessing, but I'm sure the suspension is much to blame

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. It has plenty of power but it just can't get it to the ground as well as other hi-po cars.

Manual trans and gearing are the biggest problems with running a good time in the GT350s. Stiff suspension doesn't help.

Lowest I've seen is 12.3 for an R. About 12.6 for a regular GT 350. The lower R number was attributed to lower weight and stickier rubber.
Smaller tires also.
I removed all the front and rear suspension from my GT350 track pack to remove all the rubber bushings and to replace them with cortex bearings. And also to install the R front and rear springs and rear R sway bar and also the toe, vertical and camber links from BMR. While doing all of this I was going to swap my 3.73 gears for the 4.09 ford performance gears. I already have Forgeline GA1R open lug wheels and 305/30zr19 wheels that are 1" shorter than my original 305/35zr19.
But guess what, Ford performance discontinued the 4.09 gears already!

Wow a 4.09 is pretty low. Like a jeep wrangler :headbonk: Wonder how it would drive outside of a strip? Have you tried that setup in another GT350?

I always laugh when people think 4.09/4.10 gears are big. My fox body I used 5.13 gears and that was with a 4 speed Jericho dr4 transmission and a 401 svo block and Yates heads. Shifting at 8000 rpm and crossing the line at 8200 rpm.

I know we are in different times and tech. I put 100,000 miles+ on my 5.0 with 4;30s ran a 275/60 on the street. 23 mpg when I drove nice. 11.60s any night that I went to the track. At the end I was running 10.7s @ 128 and still decent on the street with the 4:30s lol.
