I dont think there is any difference in the build of the motors or replacements and they dont tag them as replacements. Thats just my opinion.
There isn't any difference now between the two motors but it wasn't always so. Pretty lengthy thread on it. Cam phasers and maybe some other things that were different.

My engine code, 2019 GT350, chassis K0604. So, looks like the 21st engine built on 02/22/19 at REP.

My Ford contact says otherwise, the "R"'s still get the Ford Racing Cam Phasers, something about they are more stable on oil pressures at high RPM's

the MY19 still show in the Parts database different cam phasers part numbers for the "R" Motor.
other than that the motors are the same.

REP does in fact mean "Romeo Engine Plant" My contact does not know why the Standard GT350 has it spelled out
and the GT350R has it as REP, my thought is that it makes the label stand out as they are different.

For 19, they all say REP and GT350R, whether it’s an R or not.

All GT350R motors from 2016 - 2019
MY2016 = REP 5.2L GT350R / GA 555 AA
MY2017 = REP 5.2L GT350R / HA 555 AA
MY2018 = REP 5.2L GT350R / JA 555 AA
MY2019 = REP 5.2L GT350R / KA 555 AA

All GT350 motors from 2016 - 2019
MY2016 = ROMEO ENGINE PLANT 5.2L / GA 557 AA
MY2017 = ROMEO ENGINE PLANT 5.2L / HA 557 AA
MY2018 = ROMEO ENGINE PLANT 5.2L / JA 557 AA
MY2019 = ROMEO ENGINE PLANT 5.2L / KA 557 AA or REP 5.2L GT350R / KA 555 AA
and I had seen one the other day
ROMEO ENGINE PLANT 5.2L / KA 557 AB

Most GT350's with Engine Replacements regardless of MY or model are getting
2019 = REP 5.2L GT350R / KA 555 AA tagged motors.

Maybe this was due or the cause of the reduced build numbers of the GT350R for MY18 and MY19
and they had a lot of left over motors or they needed motors to replace in cars so they reduced the
Production numbers of the "R" cars ?? who knows..

All I do know is that the GT350 Motors Tag code 557 are using coyote engine Cam phasers and the
GT350 R Tag Code 555 are using Ford Racing Cam Phaser parts. and the Ford Parts database shows this clearly...

These cam phasers do nothing for engine power, they were just more stable at high rpms and the thought that the "R" would see more track time than the standard GT350 is why they were used.

if the engines were not different then why use different codes? sure a 555 motor will work in a GT350 just fine and a 557 engine will work just fine in a GT350R. because the differences were so minor.

Those cam phasers must be really expensive or why wouldn't they standardize them to save money?

So you've actually documented 2019 MY GT350's with the 557 identifier? I was tracking what 21418 said...

Nope, the Ford Racing ones are $100.00 more than the regular ones

I have physically witnessed a MY2019 at the dealer while I was getting an alignment and tire replacement last weekend that was getting prepped that had a 557 label.
I asked the tech to pull the cover.. I should have taken a picture, I t's most likely on the floor, I will check this weekend.

Never got the code from my 2017 engine that died at 1616 miles. Here’s the new engine I just received. Chassis H3283

Looks like a 19 R engine to me. Built April 10th. The 4th engine of the day. Congrats.

Mine says “REP 5.2L GT350R KA 555 AA” on the top and “EF0AA 19126220023” on the bottom.

The build date from the driver’s side door sticker: “1201905237315”

So it’s the 23rd(!) engine built on 5/23? It was the only thing between the builder and the long weekend. Hope the builder was focused.
