Question. Does JR236 have a leftover 17 MY Engine?
My car has 22 miles on it. Early 18 build.
Apparently being build in 3-18 means it received a 17 engine or the valve cover sticker is old.
Either way.

I’m not trying to piss on it. I’m wanting to try to confirm at what chassis number did the GT350/R start receiving JA motors. I think that could potentially lead us into the possibility of where this supposedly piston ring updating was implemented. I wouldn’t think an HA motor got it. They were probably sitting around already built waiting to go into service.

I’m not offended lol.
To many people are hung up on this shit.
I had a 16 track pack that I didn’t break in and dynoed it with 11 miles on the odometer and red lined it all the time before it reached 1000 miles of break in and it never used any oil.
I changed the oil at 200 miles and from that day on used amsoil.
Keep the oil full, check it and enjoy.

That first digit always goes by model year. GT350 launched with an FA-XXX-XX engine code in 15MY. Then went to G in 16MY, H in 17MY, J would be 18MY, and the new 19MY engine prefix is a K. They skip I.

The -555- and -557- I think differentiate GT350 and GT350R engines.

They only bump the code when there is a significant change. So for example, the spin on oil filter to the canister in 17MY.
I talked to a Friend who's Brother works at Romeo Engine Plant. I asked about the Engine Identification Label and what the codes all mean.
Here is what he said.

The date is in the number below the barcode, is setup as YY Julian date (DDD), code 220 is not known and built on that day 001
the HA-555-AA ia an Engine design code, explained like Blue Print number.
Year designed - Designed for and - any revisions

There are 2 sets of engine designs 555 (GT350R) 557 (GT350), this is to assist the builder in knowing what car it's being installed in, the engines are built to order, meaning they have a list of cars that are being built and the build orders include the engine identification tag data tied to the Vin number. So the 11 digit number is indead the serial number of the engine.

where is your ID Label picture???

This is one reason why I started this thread, to collect data and to find out what the codes mean.
I have been able to ask a friend whos brother works at the Romeo plant.
He was able to assist me in finding out some of the information, Please See my original post #1 I edited the info.

I can tell you that Dominator961's 2018 GT350R JR236 built on 3/18
has an Engine Built on 3/7/2018 using the Engine Build Plans of 2017, Calibration code 555 (GT350R) with no revisions
and his was the 14th one built that day..

I would like to find some JA-555-AA or JA-557-AA labels and get their Car Build dates and Number JRxxx, or Jxxxx
this would mean that the build procedures changed for the engines, this could mean that the new procedure for piston rings was established and documented in that plan.

My replacment Engine is using the KA-555-AA build plan, and my engine build date is 12/12/2018.
I wonder when they changed the plan, I need more Labels..

But from the data I have collected so far, it's looking pretty definitive that the Motors are identical and this tag
is a marker for the Line installer so they know what engine goes into what car and is most likely tied to the VIN number
at this point.

Here you go. 16' R, #245.
IMG_0254.jpg
your Label decoded

2016 GT350R GR245 Engine Build date 3/30/2016
The Engine Design plan (Calibration Code) GA-555-AA
means that the engine design plan 2016 for a GT350R with no revisions.

this means the Motor is intended to be installed in a GT350R using the procedures outlined in the
GA-555-AA plan.

How can you tell mine was built View attachment 342082 on 3-7-18 and the 9th one built going by these numbers?

The Line on the bottom of the label:
EF0AA 18066220014

Break it down
we know EF0AA is the Romeo Plant code

18 066 220 014
18 = the Year
066 = the first 66 days in the year March 7th
220 = Niche Line code or department code, unsure though, waiting to hear back, but all labels have this number
014 = the 14th one built on that date.

Julian Date would be DDD in numerical sequence (January 1 = 001
