The last four years or so a group from Team Shelby take a cruise in that area in December, last cruise of the year. They leave Saratoga and drive to Lucille Packard children hospital and give cards and gifts to the children, plus photo op. Then leave and back roads to highway 1 and the up the coast to Half moon Bay marina for lunch. I've done it with them a couple of times, nice group of people and a great time. I think there were about 20 Mustangs this last December.

I lived right by Niles Canyon in Fremont. You really need to take Calaveras Road if you haven't yet. It's beautiful.

I used to drive calaveras all the time but at night. Its way to tight and full of blindspots for any type of spirited driving in the daytime. One of my new favorites is golf links rd up to skyline, north till you hit redwood rd all the way back down to Castro Valley. You can also turn off redwood on to Pinehurst to get back up towards walnut Creek.

Episode 3.
Thursday’s episode of “Back-roads in the GT350” takes us from Los Gatos to Almaden on a old historic road. It's a road of myth and legend where only witches and satanic albinos wander. If you guessed Hicks Road in San Jose you must have lived to tell the stories! I start my travels on Shannon Road in Los Gatos, following a speeding U-Haul truck mind you, and up past Steve “The Woz” Wozniak's house then a right on to Hicks Road.

Hicks Road winds around the Historic Quicksilver Park with glimpses of the “Tower” on top of Mt. Umunhum. Hicks dumps into Alamitos Road and on into Pat Tillman's home town of New Almaden.

Your route is what you use with a GT350 :D Great pictures keep 'me coming. Cruising season effectively shut down here.

If you have a Prius you use the route below :headbonk:

here is another good one if you want to visit the east bay, including some good views of the entire silicon valley from on to of Mt. Hammy. The east bay hills are beautiful right now with all the early rain, just look out for turkeys, cows, and the occasional coyote. Can check out the livermore winery/vinyards as well

We have great wineries overe here :headbang:

One thing about that route a portion of it can get nasty with rater flowing on the road and rocks/mud from the hills. It's been a few years since doing it but the last time it was nasty on the north end of San Antonio valley. Backside of Hammy is pretty epic though.

A lot of black ice on the other side too! I will go this route after Feb. I usually take pictures, in the observatory parking lot, after I get a new car.

Back-roads in the GT350...

We used to have a local T.V. show called Bay Area Back-roads, which the host would drive the back-roads of the Bay Area in search of Northern California history and simply to find “the different”. The roads taken to get to those locations inspired me to start this post.

Today's episode takes me from Los Gatos through Portola Valley and into Woodside then back home. Route taken was Hwy 17 > Ca-9 > Ca-35 (known as Skyline) > Ca-84 > on to Interstate 280 and home.

The view to the right is The Silicon Valley home to Google, Facebook, Yahoo, HP, Apple, Intel, Stanford University, Super Bowl 50, SJ Sharks, and so many more. The view on the left, on a clear day, is the Pacific Ocean.

Road conditions included wet roads, clear of traffic, only a few bicyclists, and one minor rock slide. No real story to go with this as I just drove and drove, stopped to take a picture or two, then drove again. Great views.

What's your favorite local road?
Brings back fond memories of when I lived in San Ramon. I used to ride my CB650 from San Ramon over the rolling grassy hills to Livermore. Suggest you try it if you're in the a East Bay. Now I live in Colorado, so it's more like doing hill climbs over 11k and 12k mountain passes. Impatiently waiting for my Track Pack - built awaiting shipping. Might also have to wait for Spring!

I was surprised how much ice and frost was back there a couple years back. We will have to plan a group drive starting up on hammy down into Livermore for some wine tasting...sounds like by spring there should be a pretty good group of owners in the bay. Mines about a month out.

Episode 4.
Road to Super Bowl 50!

Saturday’s episode of “Back-roads in the GT350” takes us from Bass Pro Shops in San Jose to Super Bowl 50 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Ca. Yes, we have a Bass Pro Shops!! Mostly freeway driving, but I did manage to take the longer route by way of Hwy17/880 to Coleman Ave for a quick professional iPhone photo shoot at some random place of business near the not so famous San Jose Airport. ;)

Once at my destination I couldn't help but “cruise” the Stadium Strip... ha-ha. I wasn't the only one as I spied a GT3 doing the same thing I was doing.

Bonus Video...
