Depends on what you want to do with the car. I restored my 66 as a driver, and it's driven year round, going to shows is only a small part of that. Does it compare to the new cars performance wise? Not a chance, but it has a raw appeal that leaves a smile on my face for a week every time I drive it. With a stock looking 347 pushing 400HP and only 2900 lbs it has plenty of pop. Just wish I could find decent performance tires for the original 14" 10-spoke wheels...
I enjoyed them from 2000 untill I sold the last one in 2018. So I had many street miles too. We would get them done, go to a year or two of shows and then drive them. Very fun winding up and an original 289HP or the 428 GT500. It's great that the early Mustangs have a huge following. The last time I drive one of my old Shelby's home from a show a friend asked me if it over heated because it was a very hot day in Denver. I told him the Shelby did fine but the driver overheated.
