FYI my coyote did the same (1 quart per 1000 miles), once it hit about 10,000 miles and at which point the oil consumption slowed down.

Different engine but maybe there is hope.

It is very important to drive the car at high revs but partial throttle. In this case, the first 50 miles and 250 miles are important milestone points. The problem many people have is they associate redlining or driving the car hard with WOT pulls. WOT puts a lot of immediate strain on components. What you want to do is 30-50% throttle to 7000-7250 rpm. The other extremely important aspect is engine braking. At 4000-5000 rpm, you need to do several of these (downshift and let the car coast on its own till 2500 rpm or so). Both of these techniques are very well known, apply to every type of naturally aspirated high revving motors. The issue is, a manufacturer cannot use this type of language in a user manual without opening themselves up to lots of warranty claims. So instead they ll say (like BMW for instance), "dont exceed 4500 rpm for the first 1200 miles". The rpm itself isnt as important as much as "how" you get to that rpm. Big difference between a WOT pull vs what I described above.

Also want to add that BMW's old S65 motor (8400 rpm redline v8) is very well known for consuming 1QT of oil every 1000 miles. I have owned mine for 30,000 miles, not a drop of oil consumed between oil changes (5000 miles) possibly because of the way I broke my engine in. Same story with my M5. Not a drop of oil, oil level doesnt even move each interval (7000 miles).

Also once you pass the 2000km mark, the harder you drive the car, the better it is:

- Never let the car idle when cold. Very important. Drive it right away. If for example we are leaving in the morning with my wife and kid and sometimes one of has to go back home for something, I'll immediately shut off the engine until when I can actually drive.
- I redline my cars at least once or twice a day, every day I use them. My M5 has now over 30,000 miles. Not a drop of oil, no running rich or lean. Rock solid. Same as my other cars.

Babying cars, especially for an engine like this, is the worst thing you can do for an engine. This is also precisey why I would never buy a collector car even if I had money (like those 07-09 GT3RS with 2000 miles). Bad idea.

correct break in??? NO. At the first track attack, my car (#13) had 60 miles on it. We were told to drive it like we stole it. I asked if they were concerned about breaking the car in before using for the track and they didn't care. #13 is still running today based upon the track attack thread.
Just another testimonial for the break it in hard group.

So I just got back from the dealer where my car is, for a replacement fuel pressure switch that was leaking and for the oil consumption problem, the service manager showed me a print out from ford basically saying not to do anything to the car about the oil issue they are aware of the oil consumption problem and they are working on a fix

My car has 1000 miles and I just checked the dipstick and the oil level is right at minimum. I was going to do my oil change this week anyways, however, should I be concerned?
Yes your using a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Mine used a quart and a half at 1000 miles. Dealer checked car underneath and said all good no leaks. That's Ford service for ya. Right now I am using a quart about every 400 miles. So check yours carefully.

I find using a quart of oil every 400 miles hard to believe. At that rate you'll never have to change oil just oil filters like we used to do at Roadway when I was a mechanic there. The engine oil would inject into the fuel tank every so often and all while you're driving it would replenish with new.

Consider yourself lucky. Mine is using a quart every 80 miles. It uses over 2 quarts every tank of gas. Ford refused to provide me with oil which is fine. I can live with that as long as the engine arrives in a timely manner. I have been waiting over a month. It is getting pushed back to the first week in November. Keep your chin up. We can still drive them while some forum members are out of luck until the new engine arrives.

The tail pipe and or plugs and o2 sensors must be soaked and a trail of blue smoke. The dealer said its dry underneath?

One of my customers had a new at the time gmc Kodak with a 8.1 that used 4 quarts of oil in 3000 miles and GM kept telling me that was acceptable. My ass. When I tore the engine down the rings end gaps were all phases the same direction. I did a compression and leak down before I tore the engine down and this confirmed the problem. This truck had less than 5000 miles on it at the time.

How can this be accurate. First you say 80 miles per quart then you say 2 quarts per full tank of gas. You're telling us you get only 160 miles per tank of fuel?

I don't know whats going on that's the problem. No support from the dealer they had 1 Shelby for 2016 and they could place an order for MY17 but the owner was keeping that for him self. No smoke at start up no smoke while driving. Plus it seems to drive great we had it at Lime Rock last month drove great didn't even go into limp mode. The dealer would just like me to go away Ive called many times and they want me to bring it down again to check for leaks. Ive explained to him weve been there done that!

How many miles on the engine? How many hours on the engine?
Have they done a compression and leak down test? Make sure they provide you with this info.

It's not fine. They refuse to stand behind their product. I feel bad for you as my dealer at least as been as supportive as they can be for me.

Good luck with the new engine. They told me they won't put a new one in because it will probably just do the same thing. Even more confidence inspiring.
