I picked up my car last Wednesday from the dealer and the car had almost exactly 5000 miles on it. I have driven 325 miles since I picked it up and just checked it again right now. It has used over 1/2 a quart in that mileage. So now it looks like it is burning a quart every 600-700 miles. As I feared the oil leak/loss/burning is getting worse.

correct break in??? NO. At the first track attack, my car (#13) had 60 miles on it. We were told to drive it like we stole it. I asked if they were concerned about breaking the car in before using for the track and they didn't care. #13 is still running today based upon the track attack thread.
Yep, I turned the 2000th mile on it!

It's not fine. They refuse to stand behind their product. I feel bad for you as my dealer at least as been as supportive as they can be for me.

Good luck with the new engine. They told me they won't put a new one in because it will probably just do the same thing. Even more confidence inspiring.
it's speculation until you can get the data from the leakdown test. If dealership won't give you the data, then maybe you could go to an independent mechanic and have them run the tests.

What is speculation?

burning too much oil is open for debate. Leakdown test is hard data. It may show a single bad piston, valve, etc. that makes it more clear what to do next. Instead of something vague like "maybe we will have a fix in the spring.

I can only go on what they are saying. They should have the data, but as you can see, they are telling dealers not to touch the engine and not being very helpful. They just kick the cars out of service and let the customer monitor and fill the oil as needed on a brand new 60k car. Meanwhile giving us great info that they are aware there is a problem and they are working on a fix. Even though they are not inspecting the engines with the issues?:headbonk::frusty::paddle:

I don't know what else to say or do.

step 1 is get the data. If the numbers are obviously bad, dealership will be more motivated to repair or replace the engine. And if they do, and the repaired or replaced engine has the same problem, then you are likely in lemon law territory (> 30 days). But don't get ahead of yourself thinking about lemon law at this point.

Look, I appreciate what you are saying, but it is not my job to figure out Ford's issues. I do not have the time nor desire to go find an independent mechanic and drop my car off etc. What is an independent mechanic going to find out that Ford doesn't already know? Or are you saying that Ford really isn't working on the problem? If that is the case then that is a completely different issue.

Ford has a contractual duty to fix my car. I have not modified it or abused it so I have held up my end of the bargain. If they cannot in a timely manner or flat out refuse to do so then that is what lawyers are for. I really don't want to go down that road. I've only hired a lawyer once and that was to file my wife and I's will. I love the car and really don't want anything else. But no way in hell am I going to check my oil every third day and add a quart every other week (or more) on a brand new car with a warranty. This is really up to Ford and they are forcing me (and I'm guessing others) into a corner. They are handling many issues with his car very poorly at best and possibly illegally at worst.

Not to add fuel to the... I picked up my car in Texas, drove a spirited 1200 mi back home. Lots of trips to redline etc. Oil level right at full, 9000 mi and two more oil changes car has yet to use any oil.
A leakdown test will only tell you if a cylinder is leaking a percentage of air past valves or rings. The '03 Cobras had huge valve guide to stem clearence. most had the famous "Tick" from valves flopping in the guides. most would pass a leakdown test but still had serious head issues. Ford replaced truckloads of those heads under warranty.
if an engine is using as much oil as stated here, It would for sure have a oily wet spark plug in the problem cylinders.
The guys with issues should do a bit of detective work, pull the plugs and take a look.

So say we do this. Ford has already not been very easy to work with. Why am I going to give them anymore ammo to be a pain in my ass? I'm not going to give them any excuse to deny my warranty by saying I tampered with it or something along those lines.

Sorry, my faith and trust with Ford, especially after the recent recall notice in the other thread, is extremely low right now.

You took it in, they told you to keep the oil topped off. You aren't happy with that so sell it and move on. Easy decision.

Don't be that guy. They actually didn't tell me to keep it topped off by the way.

What's a two cycle engine use? 50:1?

So if you get 80 miles, at 15mpg ~ 20 quarts
and 1 quart of oil
that's 20:1 ratio
that is fogging for mosquitoes
Sorry but I lmao on the mosquitos part.
