Stunning outcome from 1st Qualifying with 4 GTs in the top 5 GTE Pro. Lots of chatter about Ford sandbagging for BoP advantage. Same could be said about Ferraris. Both stepped up several seconds from last testing. Corvette fans not happy.

The Corvette guys got hammered twice with BOPs that added weight & took hp away because they were too fast. The GTs were gifted with more power & less weight to make them more competitive. Wonder if there's going to be another round of BOPs?

Good

The amount of arrogant boasting that the GM/Corvette crowd had over those cars was getting nauseating...

I'm hoping that the GT's take the win, and between Ford and Ferrari, they shut the C7's out of the top 5 completely.

Question is, will the GT's be reliable throughout the 24hrs?
lets hope, Im amped with the #1 qualifying, but lasting the 24 hours is all together different

The excuses have already started in the GM camp..

"Even if the GT's win, it won't be legitimate..the BoP screwed us and is obviously meant to give Ford the win #boycottLemans #Bowtieboycott"

More info on the BoP dispute.

Note this paragraph
“Remember that in GTE we have new regulations this year,” added Niclot. “We are happy with these regulations because we can develop some very beautiful cars, but today we only have two cars that are built to the new regulations."

So only the GTs and Ferraris were built to the new regs. The question would seem to be Was it their construction that made them perform so much better during qualifying or their sandbagging during testing?

The Corvette folks will not like any discussion about being outdated.

So Qualifying is over and Ford has P1, P2, P4 & P5 for GTE Pro.

No matter what happens with further BoP changes and the race, Ford, Multimatic and CGR did an amazing job after an almost 50 years absence from Le Mans, with a brand new car that turned it's first wheel only a year ago.

The accusations by the competitors about sandbagging will never end and they will do everything they can to diminish any Ford success with tons of asterisks.

So be it. Ford has already won.

With those results there was either sandbagging or a BOP failure.

Outlined in a bulletin issued on Thursday, the latest change sees the Le Mans Test Day pace-setting Corvette C7.R slowed, with a 0.3 mm air restrictor reduction.

The Porsche 911 RSR, meanwhile, has been hit with a 5kg minimum weight increase, with the Ford GT receiving a further 5kg weight reduction, on top of its 20kg break it received prior to the test.

Aston Martin’s 2016-spec Vantage GTE has been given the biggest adjustments, in the form of a 10kg weight reduction and 0.2 mm smaller air restrictor.

Fuel capacity levels have also been adjusted across the class, with the Aston now eligible to carry 102 liters, compared to 98 liters for the Ford, 95 for Porsche, 93 for Corvette and 88 for the Ferrari 488 GTE car.

Per the revised BoP, the Aston must also run “Aero Kit B.”

I hate the whole BOP process. Racing should be about setting rules for all to follow equally then let the best team earn a win. Teams even get penalized if their engine is more fuel efficient.
