I'll take that engine... I don't need the a/c.Sponsored
I'll take that engine... I don't need the a/c.What a shoddy looking work area. Tires for engines...that's what I did as a kid. Splitters and misc parts laying on the ground on top of eachother? I'd be double checking the work done here.
I'm a little confused here. Older cars that are "numbers matching" only need to have a motor that is correct to the car. Meaning a 69 Boss 302 could have a motor swapped out but as long as the numbers on the motor denote it as being a 69 Boss motor there would be no way to know if it was original to that car or not. When did they start putting the actual vin of the car on the motor? A friends 03 Cobra motor turned itself inside out and he got a new one under warranty. He was concerned about this issue and was assured that the numbers on the new motor were exactly the same as the old one.The original engine is stamped with the vin number on the left rear corner of the block. Once they replace the engine it'll never be a numbers matching car again. Period.
He got a new long block.Looks like you got heads with that short block???
In any case, congratulations on getting custody of your GT350R MisterGT
I can't believe a 4000 dollar splitter was just laying there on the ground with parts piled on it. I would have lost my shit. And with the vin being on the block on these things I would have wanted some cash for diminished value as well as 4 months without my car.I was thinking the same thing. Nice tire engine stand. It is the bad engine but the shop looks sketch to me.
You are a very patient person. I would be going nuts if my car was out of commission so long.
I'm glad you got it back and it seems fine. Now get that motor broken in and have fun.
.
On some limited production cars the VIN is stamped on the block and sometimes the tranny. My '70 Boss 302 was one example. Normally replacement motors do not have the cars VIN stamped on them. The '03 Cobra may not have been done this way, I couldn't tell you.I'm a little confused here. Older cars that are "numbers matching" only need to have a motor that is correct to the car. I've often been called an old fart, but I guarantee you I'm still learning, lol. Grandpa always said "when you're done learning you're done". :cheers:No shit, learn something new everyday.
Haha, yea, I hope I never quit learning! It's funny how much people (all of us) think we know vs. what we really know.....I've often been called an old fart, but I guarantee you I'm still learning, lol. Grandpa always said "when you're done learning you're done".
Vin"s have been stamped on the block, tranny & fender tags(door sticker) since the early 1960's. thats as far back as i go. it is a documentation/production issued as well as a way to track the combination (car, motor & tranny)I'm a little confused here. vin's stamped into blocks since the 1960's (i know Mopar did)Most people don't know about or don't expect (these days) the numbers on the block to match the car...I know I was surprised to hear this. While it might filter out a couple potential buyers in the future - I don't think it's a death sentence for a future sale or value. That said, if it were me, I'd request that whatever replacement engine they sent me, be printed with the correct VIN on it. I'd also explore how long you would need to wait for a long block. I've built a few 4V motors and while they aren't rocket science - there are a bunch of parts...and I'd prefer the heads never be removed from the block (original install).
