I'll add one more issue I have (if you've gotten this far). I chose both the Performance Package AND the 50 years Appearance Package which BOTH come with upgraded wheels. Individually you are paying for a new set of wheels so logically when you order both packages you are paying for TWO sets of wheels. Since I'm only getting one set of wheels on my car then I believe the logical conclusion is that I should get some sort of reduction in one of the packages whose wheels I'm not getting. This may apply to the tires too. Ford is charging twice for a single item. Sounds like a great way to treat your customers.
Unfortunately, that's not how it works with any of the manufacturers. One package will override the other and you're not really paying for a full set of wheels/tires, you're paying a discounted upgrade fee. Lookup the OEM wheel cost (a member here was quoted as owing $1900 for replacing one tire and wheel when he curbed one on the test drive). If you wanted to pick that package issue, you could ask yourself why you didn't get both the PP dash and the AP dash. :)

Fastback50, I'm sorry to tell you, but you are upset because ford didn't meet expectations that you set yourself, with little insight into the process. It's not their fault..

I understand being anxious and lack of patience for sure, but this is a new car, new design, new tooling and it takes time. You can't make your moves based on time ideas that they didn't give to you, that where inferred.

Well now! You are not the only one getting the short end of the stick. The contact at Ford swore that my vehicle would be delivered 10-31-2014. The car was ordered
July-11-2014. Now I check my status and they have added 10 days to the delivery. The car has been sitting at a siding in OHIO I believe since October 14th.

And as far as paying for two sets of wheels Your dealer has direct contact with Ford I believe an adjustment on the package prices are in order. Good luck.

I ordered my car on July 23rd. My dealer told me that Ford wasn't taking my actual order into their system until sometime in September so I went through a number of feature add-ons - especially when they finally came out with the lease details and I found I could afford more car with a lower monthly payment. I was also assured that all my changes would NOT change my place/priority in line.

So my order finally ended up being:
Ecoboost Fastback Auto
Ruby Red
200A
Performance Package
50 Years Appearance
Enhanced Security
Reverse Sensing Sys
Adaptive Cruise Control
Voice Activated Nav

I stopped altering my order around the first of October since my dealer said that Ford was getting ready to put it into their build lineup.

I then waited, and called for three weeks. The dealer couldn't tell my anything so I obsessively checked cotusb.com. My car was in their system (yeah) but there was not action being taken. Finally on October 20th I got my VIN. Now my understanding is that when you get your VIN your car goes into production right away. Not so in my case. I waited and checked. Nothing.

On October 30th my dealer calls to tell me that I finally have a build date... on November 24th! A whole month away. Five weeks AFTER my VIN number was assigned. Based on Fords standard process my car should already be built and in transit.

So now I might get it a week before Christmas or around New Years.

Now, I'm definitely not happy about the delayed gratification of getting my car but I have a much bigger problem with this whole process. I have a current lease that expired in October with a one month extension that ends at the end of November. Before the delay the transition between cars was going to be tight but now it's impossible.

My dealer told me that the reason for Fords build delay was due to supplier problems. Ford isn't getting the parts in time, or to specs, or something. Basically they can't build the cars because they don't have the parts. Since others are getting their cars I can only assume it's a specific part that belongs to one of the features that I ordered but others didn't. So if I hadn't ordered the fancy whizz-bang-doo-hicky thingy then I'd have my car sooner than later.

Getting my car much later than I want? I've come to begrudging terms with it.
Walking 20 miles to work and back for a month?? No F'ng way.

I'll add one more issue I have (if you've gotten this far). I chose both the Performance Package AND the 50 years Appearance Package which BOTH come with upgraded wheels. End of rant.
Sorry you were misinformed but getting your vin does not mean it is going into production it just means your parts have been allocated.

My parts have been allocated since the second week of retail scheduling and my build week is 11/9. About one week from your build date is when you get your window sticker which lets you know that you have a build date and will be built soon. Up until you have a window sticker nothing is happening with your car.

True. I was focused on the higher dollar value of the wheels. The dash and other doubled up features don't have the same associated costs that four rims have. Tires aren't cheep either. All I can say is that Ford better deliver some damn fine wheels and tires for the 2X price I'm paying for them. I'll take great performance with limitless tread and wheels impervious to curb kisses, please.

I had my passenger side dash panel (the aluminum part) replaced on Friday under warranty. The retail cost on the part is $1500. It's not chump change.

Thanks. I only wish dealers (or even Ford) would put together all the detailed info WE want and need, that lays out this whole process in one document. Kind of link a "What to Expect when You're Expecting" book for soon-to-be car owners. This forum is great but it feels like most of us are fumbling around in the dark looking for answers or tidbits of data. I like info and data. I may not like what it says but I like KNOWING what's going on so my expectations don't get crushed along the way. With that said, I really appreciate the collective wisdom of this forum. Thanks to all.

Ford's process is their process, but any reasonable person would not expect people who place their order 2 and 3 months after someone else to be getting their's first.

Ford also started scheduling test drives to take place originally August 2 2014. These weren't special event test drives but regular ones at your local dealer. So that would lead the average person to believe production would have already started.

Now on a dealer's side. If you tell your customer that custom orders will be built first, or that you are our first order so your's will be the first to hit the lot. That can't be considered our fault. Or how about the newest one, as soon as it hits the rail station we can hit ticket it and have it the next day. Of course now that it's there the story changes. Now next day is looking more like 5 days. Giving false hopes or misinformation or out right lying is what is giving people grief and getting more frustrated each day. My order was placed on 5-20-2014 at 10:15 am est.

Dealing with your dealer

GEEEZZZZZZZZ
You should put more energy into dealing with your dealer.
A) He couldn't tell you that you are getting your car on a certain date, because he couldn't know it at all. If you need a car to go to work, point out that they said you get it in October and you have to get to work. They come up with something. My dealer called me when they got the production date and offered me to sell me a car and take it for the same price back if I need one to get to work.
B) Ask him to give you a set of winter tires because they giving them also on top for other models for free (I know you live down south maybe you can sell them or ask for a in-store credit for parts or what ever)
C) Ask him to get in contact with his area manager to get some discount because of the double charging but only PP delivery.

My dealer gave me a real good price but promised me on the 24th last month that he takes a look into a set of winter tires for me if it is still offered from FORD.

So start to calm down. As one member posted already. We all are going through this.

I have a lot of sympathy for you guys who ordered so early. I get that Ford chose to run the entire Job 1 out of dealer stock orders, now that we know those cars ALL went directly into storage at Flat Rock, waiting for QC repairs. But I think it would have been good to prioritize the May/June orders as soon as they hit OK To Buy, and that didn't happen at all. In fact it seems like the earliest orders were forgotten, and it's faster to cancel and start over. When guys are going from order to driving in 30-45 days right now, sitting on a May order with no VIN or production date is wrong, and there must be something wrong with the system. If I were you, I'd redo the order.
