Got away with one today

Heading to lunch with a budy today and stomped on it turning onto a somewhat suburban backroad. Revved out second, hit third and imidiay started to hit the brakes as I was going way too fast for what was probably a 35 zone. Boom, unmarked cop coming the other way. He flips around, and pulls me over. Cop walks up with a smile and says "nice car, man". Talk a bit, it was obvious he didn't clock me but knew I was going too fast. Comes back and just says, "it's a sweet car but you got to slow it down, have a nice day." No ticket, no hassle! What a cool cop! I thanked him and turned around to pull away and he throws a big smile and a peace sign out his window as I waved.

I know I was in the wrong but wasn't hurting anyone. You always hear about cops who are dicks but you never hear about it when they do you a solid. Just thought I'd share the positive experience.

Yep, funny what happens when you show some respect and just do what you're told...

It's situations like that I believe helps earn MORE respect towards law enforcement officers. Yup, he did you a solid. No harm, no foul and you'll think twice about the next time you decide to be a little rambunctious on the street. Everybody comes away happy and you learned a lesson.

Do it again however, and there will probably be consequences.

In my life, I've only run into ONE officer like that. The night I bought my Javelin, I did a pretty good launch at a stop light and ran it up to 60 real quick. It was 11pm, and there wasn't another car around (or so I thought). He did the same thing, gave me a bit of a lecture, but sent me on my way.

Every other cop simply sees dollar signs when they see me coming.

I've been fortunate enough to have mostly positive experiences with law enforcement. Sure, I've had some tickets along the way but nothing I didn't deserve. For me it's always helped to be cool calm and collected. Don't encrominate yourself but have a conversation with them and be open. Cops are just people doing a job. Treat them like humans and they treat you the same, for the most part. Some are jerks but you get that everywhere, in ever job. Ricky down in receiving is a grade A asshole but I don't take it out on ever UPS guy I see.

Granted, I'm a 30 year old white guy who at least looks like he has his shit together.

Haha, I had a similar thing happen to me on Christmas. I had to drive into work that day, and my company is on a 35 mph road with only other industrial buildings. Turned onto the street and gave her the beans (no other cars around)..as I approached the curve at the end of the road I saw a charger wayyyy back in my rearview..Caught up to me, we rolled our windows down and he told me not to make him break his rule of no tickets on Christmas. Definitely a cool dude. A little respect goes a long way with my LE encounters.

Nice, lol. I encountered a pretty cool cop as well just a few days ago. He was in the middle lane going like 40 in a 50 and everyone was too scared to pass him up. I honestly passed him up going like 55mph and then I had to stop for the red light. He pulled up and asked me, "Nice!! What stage is that?" and we chatted up for a bit. Said he had a '14 GT.

I've gotten pretty lucky several times too. There's SO many times where I've floored it and then all of a sudden seen a cop and I KNOW they've seen AND heard me. So many "oh shitt!!" moments.

i have a lot of cop friends. They for the most part could give a sh!t about writing a speeding ticket. There is no "quota" for writing tickets. But where they do get rated / judged is on bringing in people with warrants.

They are pulling people over looking for the warrants. If the person is even remotely not an idiot they will let them go.

you caught a break.. same thing happened to me the day I brought my car home.. no ticket but lesson learned..patrol car pulled over after passing me..my son was next to me reading the window sticker and commenting on the options.. cop could not have been more than 25 .. I'm 44...never too old to learn!

Happened to me about 7 years ago, was cruising along just days before Christmas. Turned from a 65 to a 50, but the road was basically completely empty and we were singing Christmas songs. Cop coming the other way does a u-turn and pulls me over. I was doing just over 70. Of course, my son asks me why did he pull me over with the officer standing right there, I said because I was driving too fast. Explained politely what happened, was singing songs with the kids and did not realize how fast I was going and that we had gone past the speed change. He even asked me a couple of times "are you sure you did not have a reason to be driving that fast?" I said no excuses, I did not realize. He came back to the window after a while (and after my wife had scolded me that you never admit anything), and said "I never let anyone off (I believe him, no nonsense but he was very polite at the same time) but I am going to do it this first time. I expect a nice Christmas present under my tree" (with a slight smirk). Thanked him repeatedly and we were on our way. Whew!

When getting yanked over I always have my hands visible on the wheel, radio off, window down, at night have the interior lights on and greet them with a smile. You take the fear out of the LEO and show him you have no ill intent and treat them with respect, this goes a looooong way. Even when I do get the douche canoes I still act the same way. Shocker here.... I have never had a traffic stop turn bad, yes I have gotten tickets... and they were deserved but I have also dodged my fair share as well. People dont understand, the side of the road is not where you fight and argue about getting a ticket, that is what the courts are for.

Yep, beef has the procedures right, I was going to add those steps. Although I could drive as fast as I want in my grey 4 door and never got pulled over. I am thinking now that I have a Mustang, getting pulled over is a lot more likely. I drive slow, but it's gonna be that one time I want to have a little fun.
