After 3 years of gawking at the latest iteration and dreaming, I am very close to ordering my first Mustang GT.

Coming from a Jaguar XE S, which I absolutely love and went for because I needed a 5 seater 3 years ago, it is time for a true V8. Anyway had enough of waiting, with three young kids, thankfully the last one is still small enough to fit in the boot..!

Going for the following spec for reference:

Shadow Black Fastback GT including automatic gearbox: £44,745

Added Features £3,410:
Colour: Shadow Black £595
Large Rear Spoiler £350
SYNC 3 Satellite Navigation Pack £865
MagneRide® Adaptive Suspension System £1,600

Recommended OTR Total Price £48,155

I would appreciate your advice on some initial thoughts and questions:

  • Going through Carwow, I notice I can save £2,746 (5.7%) on the best 'saved' offer. I suppose apart from the usual 'going around the dealerships' situation to get a better deal, are there any recommendations and/or thoughts on how to lower the bottom line and where / who may provide a better discount? This is bearing in mind that I will need to go for a PCP with around £15k deposit (if that matters).
  • Is there any information on if there will be a Sync 4 coming up i.e. I should wait a few months before ordering? Following from that, any other upgrades / new options I should hold on for that anyone may be aware of?
  • How long of a wait should I expect from the time of order to delivery?
  • Thoughts on any custom packs that may be worth going for to make a saving based on that spec above?
  • Any recommendations on what type of paint protection to use and who to go to? I am thinking of spending circa £1k - £1.5k on just the exterior, if that amount would give me a good product & service worth spending on.

Many thanks for any thoughts and advice on the above and in general.

Chris.

Sync 3 is here for a while yet, so don't wait for sync 4

Order to delivery - 5 to 6 months

Discounts - maybe, but generally they can sell everything they make so not much available unless there is something in stock they want to shift

Look at the price list re custom packs to see what suits you.

Paint protection - if it's an everyday car I wouldn't bother. Ford paint is pretty good these days. If you have £1500 to spend, spend it on something else in my opinion

I agree with everything Greg says above.

I placed an order at the beginning of October, estimated build is late Jan and delivery expected late March. I went through Carwow (similar discount to you and doing PCP with a similar deposit to yours) - trying directly with a different dealer the best I could get off was less than a grand.

As for paint protection, I've never bothered and I've never had a problem (and I've owned by current car for 10+ years!) so wouldn't personally bother.

Regarding the paint, it must have improved significantly from the MY16 if it can now be considered good as it was a fairly thin effort back then. Personally i'd spend £500-£600 any day for a decent initial ceramic coating (such as Gtechniq, others are available) purely for ease of cleaning alone.

Firstly, thank you all for the advice. Much appreciated!

Regarding the paint protection, I am in two minds about it now based on the replies...

I don’t want to spend all that money, however I just wanted to keep it in as much pristine condition as possible. Thing is, unfortunately I don’t have a garage and will be using the car on a daily basis.

There are loads of companies out there raving on their ceramic coating being better then the rest. Will look into Gtechniq anyway. Are there any other recommendations for comparison?

Thanks again,
Chris.

I had mine ceramic coated and 18 months later it still looks like a brand new car - even better - it really does protect the cars finish and I can highly recommend it especially if it’s done by a competent person

It all comes down to personal preference...and everyone's mileage varies...and for some people cleaning cars is part of the experience...but my Vette is over 10 years old (and red!) and without any protection at all it still looks like a brand new car. (It's rarely washed, almost never waxed or polished, but still scrubs up nicely when it does get its annual clean).

People that buy red cars realise this

Regarding the detailing, i can reccomend https://www.maverickdetailing.co.uk/ in Essex

Fellow Mustang owner and i’m always seeing photos of a few black Mustangs he maintains - they always look flawless.

I’m sure he’ll be happy to have a chat about your needs...
