No different to diesel at those temperatures
they only make up 2.8% of the market, so the other 97.2% did fine. And even diesel will do way better than electric. Try again!

1 gallon of power service takes care of the diesel, or in a pinch add a bit of gas.

I was convinced that an EV would be added to my fleet, but now I have legitimate concerns.
In certain parts of the country they do not work.

Big story here in Chicago with our extreme temperatures. Several Teslas going dead while parked at the airports, requiring a tow to a charger. This is really not acceptable. I was convinced that an EV would be added to my fleet, but now I have legitimate concerns.
There's a smattering of EVs out and about in my area most of the time, but most (if not all) have vanished from the local roads over the past several sub-zero days.

It's not rocket science, really. Back in college I used to pull the battery out of my vehicle and take it inside when it got this cold with no garage.

Much to agree with here. I lived in Wisconsin and never had a issue with starting my old Toyota whilst sitting in subzero temps all day at work. The EV thing seems to be getting more challenging when it comes to getting John Q onboard. Cost is too high, home needs and investment too high (outfitting a home for EV charging), simple thing of leaving your car for bit and being able to get in and start 'er up. Repairs costs for minor accidents and more. fwiw John Q does not make $130,000 a year or maybe even $90,000 a year. We've burned through all the upper income market that wants EV's and now automakers are dialing back, rental companies are cutting their EV fleets down. In EU biggest rental company is stopping EV purchases, all signs the "market" has issues. I'm down for better hybrids, hydrogen or finally a jet pack?

So why are EV sales / production increasing strongly?

You don't need $90k to buy an EV. There are EV's for sale under $30k in the US (Nissan Leaf for example), with sub €20k cars coming soon in Europe such as the Renault Twingo.

I counter that, Ford has reduced production, that's been factually reported, GM has too. Whether there may be affordable EV's .... public sentiment as "reported" by solid survey firms is not high on EV's. I expect we can both find info anecdotally to bolster each viewpoint. I'm not against new technology for transportation, I'm against governments forcing new technology onto the populations. Different from "supporting" technology, mandates and creating unreasonable standards (CAFE, etc.) to force change doesn't work.

If we can keep this thread going until 2028 we might see which way this is going to turn out.

Careful, once you make a clear point against EV's being the be all end all Gregs24 puts you on ignore.

I hope you don't mean post #1 on this thread re GM as that has been debunked.

Figures posted on 7G (below) clearly show Ford have increased production and sales of EV's, quarter on quarter and year on year in the US. Ford Europe have four or five EV's launching this year alone.

I'm not disagreeing that EV's are not the only solution to the problem, as you mentioned, but sales are booming globally, much more so than in the US. That is why carmakers such as Ford are investing so heavily in EV's and building EV's outside of the US for other markets. Jeep make an EV car in Europe that you don't get at all, and according to reports it is really very good. Forcing change does work in many countries whether you like it or not!

Man you are dense! I know you can’t read my post, but it’s fact. Go hide in a corner and not listen to reason.

John Kerry ’gettin’ all fiery.:cwl:

Biden climate czar John Kerry snaps when confronted about carbon footprint

President Biden's climate czar, John Kerry, gave a fiery response after he was confronted Tuesday by a reporter in Switzerland who asked about his carbon footprint.

’What's the carbon footprint of these events every single year that you come here? Do you think it's worth it — peasants paying for your crimes?‘
Avi Yemini, an Australian reporter with independent outlet Rebel News, asked Kerry who was walking on a street in Davos, Switzerland.

’That's a stupid question,‘ Kerry responded.

’Nobody ever suggested that. Don't make up stupid questions,‘ he said when asked a follow-up question about why his carbon footprint didn't matter

“But Kerry has received criticism for his carbon footprint, including his past use of a private jet owned by his family. According to flight tracking data obtained by Fox News Digital in July 2022, a Gulfstream GIV-SP jet owned by Kerry's family made a total of 48 trips that lasted more than 60 hours and emitted an estimated 715,886 pounds, or 325 metric tons, of carbon over the course of the Biden administration's first 18 months.”

🤔It took this long to figure this out? China has been playing the U.S and the rest of the Western world for years, particularly with this push for EV’s. One would have to be very naive not to see this.

https://news.yahoo.com/17-retired-military-officials-raise-153141762.html

17 retired military officials raise alarm on Biden's electric vehicle push

“FIRST ON FOX: A coalition of 17 retired military officials — including multiple one-, two-, and three-star officers — are raising the alarm on President Biden's aggressive electric vehicle (EV) push over its national security implications.

In a letter addressed to Biden and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan, the officials led by retired U.S. Army Major General James Marks warned that the president's plans for mass EV proliferation will increase reliance on Chinese supply chains. They wrote that regulatory initiatives aimed at incentivizing EV adoption ’intensify America’s vulnerability to political interference by the Chinese Communist Party.’

’There is no doubt EVs will play a significant role in diversifying America’s transportation systems. Yet we believe your plans will rush our transition to EVs before the infrastructure necessary to support it is in place," the officials wrote. "This trajectory will only position the U.S. to become more reliant on China for critical minerals and manufacturing that are necessary for the rapid expansion of EV markets this administration envisions.’

’And even more concerning is the fact that this reliance hinges upon China’s goodwill to export those minerals and manufactured goods to the U.S.,‘
the letter continued. ’This will undoubtedly open the U.S. up to economic manipulations by China, identical to what Russia is doing with Ukrainian grain exports, and a major threat to our national security. We do not believe now is the time for us to make ourselves vulnerable to such easy political pressures.’”

“’At a nearly tenfold increase over current electric vehicle sales, this proposed rule is a clear example of tone-deaf policymaking that favors the geopolitical advantages currently held by China in this market,‘they continued in their letter.

’We would be exposing our economy and national security interests if we consciously link America’s economic and transportation stability to the enterprise of a country you yourself described as an economic ‘ticking time bomb,’they said.”
