Hello; The way I read these recent stories is much of that cost is borne by folks other than the EV owner. The stuff funded by taxpayers or electric grid rate payers is part of these costs. To be sure the EV owners who happens to pay taxes and uses electricity from a grid will alos pay.

Often lately the EV champions will post as to how the EV's are the future and nothing can stop the coming. I can see how such is true as long as governments take from all to keep subsidizing the programs.

Consumer Reports pummels electric vehicle reliability, praises hybrids

“Electric vehicles may be the future, but in some ways they look a lot like the past. Particularly reliability.”

“Electric vehicles are among the worst offenders.

‘The problems with internal combustion engines are mostly sorted,‘ Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports senior director of testing, told me. ‘The new problems are mostly associated with electronics: Electric vehicles that use brand new platforms and power trains.’”

“EV’s in model years 2021-24 suffered about twice as many reliability problems as internal combustion engines, or ICE, according to CR’s survey of about 70,000 vehicles.

The five least reliable vehicle categories, from bad to worse, are:

  • Electric cars
  • Electric SUVs
  • Full-size pickups
  • Midsize pickups
  • Electric pickups
“EVs have 79% more problems than ICE vehicles, according to CR’s survey. CR excludes problems with commercial CD fast chargers from the report. They’re an infrastructure issue, but they’re also another reason many buyers are reluctant to commit to EVs.”

With the rear tonneau cover in place, there is no reward view short of the rear view cam. The skin is bullet proof, however. 🤣

Proof positive global warming is a natural phenomenon.

When Greenland was green
Hello; Interesting article. Several items worth knowing. That the lost cores were found, and methods currently exist to date the material is of interest. If I read it correctly there was an interglacial warm time lasting around 14,000 years. Triggered a memory from texts about the ice ages. May have little or nothing to do with Greenland but the older texts told of the north American continent having five ice sheet advances with interglacial periods lasting around 10,000 years.
My take some five decades ago was we were living in a most recent interglacial period which had lasted in the ten thousand year range. My experiences with winters of the 1950's, 60's and 70's seemed a compelling argument another cold time was upon us. I get such an idea is not popular but the milder winters of the last few decades seem a blessing. But I digress.

From the article.

"Even if everyone stopped burning fossil fuels tomorrow, carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere would remain elevated for thousands to tens of thousands of years. That’s because it takes a long time for carbon dioxide to move into soils, plants, the ocean and rocks. We are creating conditions conducive to a very long period of warmth, just like MIS 11."

Weird post is weird.

Hello; First question is why was the post weird?

Next question is about the quote i copied from the article. For months now those pushing for "zero -carbon" have been telling us things will begin to reverse in about 50 to 100 years from the date of zero carbon. The quote caught my attention with the thousands to tens of thousands of years statement.
I had already known some of the parts of the carbon cycle can take a long time. From carbon sequestered in old trees for hundreds of years to carbon locked up in limestones for perhaps millions of years. I wonder if the author of the article did not get the memo about how to push the agenda properly?

I read the article. Most of it made sense and was grounded on ice and soil cores thought to have been lost. The more recent date of 413,000 years ago was a bit of a surprise, but not too unreasonable. After all that is why scientists keep looking for facts and evidence.
The author even included a few sentences of climate warming in what I presume is a tactic to help be published now days.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hertz-sell-20-000-evs-123933213.html

Rental giant Hertz dumps EVs, including Teslas, for gas cars

“(Reuters) -Rental firm Hertz Global Holdings is selling about 20,000 electric vehicles, including Teslas, from its U.S. fleet about two years after a deal with the automaker to offer its vehicles for rent, in another sign that EV demand has cooled.

Hertz will instead opt for gas-powered vehicles, it said on Thursday, citing higher expenses related to collision and damage for EVs
even though it had aimed to convert 25% of its fleet to electric by 2024 end.”

”Its decision underscores the bumpy road EVs have hit as their sales growth slows
, causing carmakers like General Motors and Ford to scale back production plans.

Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas said in a note Hertz's move was another sign that EV expectations need to be "reset downward".

While consumers enjoy the driving experience and fuel savings (per mile) of an EV, Jonas said there are other "hidden costs to EV ownership".

"Expenses related to collision and damage, primarily associated with EVs, remained high in the quarter,"
Hertz said in a regulatory filing on Thursday.”
