Hi all. Posting this in the general forum since it applies to all (I think). I took delivery of my 2021 GT500 last month and was shocked to learn there was no glove box light. I saw a few threads from last year confirming they were removed for MY 2021 but no resolution. Apologies if this was covered, but I didn’t see anything. I was able to easily, and successfully, install the Ford oem glove box light just as my 2016 GT350 had. In fact, I believe it’s the same lamp housing for every year and model Mustang trim.
The only thing that would have made it easier is if the wiring was there. I searched but couldn’t find it so had to do that myself. All very easy, here’s the steps, pics below:
1) buy the light switch. Part number is 1S4Z-14413-A. Some dealers show a $50 core charge but that is not the case, I verified with 5 dealers. I paid ~$12 plus shipping.
2) find a +12v constant hot. The one I used is white w/red stripe. I’m sure there are others. For ground, I used a ring terminal to one of the nuts behind the kick panel.
3) the connector is part number WPT-1197 and is $50-$60 which is robbery. A google search showed that it uses a connector which is $1.07 and comes with sockets. You just need to supply your own wire, crimp the socket and insert into the connector. Parts arrived to me in 2 days. They are lightening quick.

4) I installed an led that matches my interior lights but the switch comes with an incandescent bulb. Once the wiring and connector are done, plug into the switch and make sure all is good, and press the switch to ensure it goes off.
5) install the light switch into the glove box. It sits to the upper left. There is a “window” cut out for the light. The switch pin protrudes through the little hole in the frame and locks into place in the back. There’s also another locating split tab on the switch that locks into place. The whole switch just snaps in.
the whole thing cost me about $30, half of that was shipping. Once you tap the 12v and run wire, it takes 5 min to crimp the sockets, slide into connector and then snap the switch in place. Some will say throw a flashlight in there but what can I say, I enjoy these little projects. And let’s be honest, Ford never should have removed it in the first place.
