so I've been hearing alot about ghost cams or bubble, crackle tunes. I looked at my tuner n i have that option from lund. Is this just to get the backfire from car? I know that cats must be deleted in order to use it. Does it do any harm to car, i dd mine in though ibdo love to piss off current neighbors, just curious if bad for motor. I mean i don't want to try it if I just have to refresh the car once I get my laughs from it.

Just don’t do it... ghost cam over crackle tune, at least I sounds cool but yeah, it’s pretty much faking the funk. For the love of God, do not get a stupid ass pop and crackle tune. I’m assuming you’re young, so save yourself the embarrassment of that mistake when you wake up one day and go “man, I am that guy”.

To more specifically answer your question, the ghost cam won’t hurt anything. That is simply the PCM playing with cam timing at idle speeds.

The crackle tune will. If you have cats, it will destroy them. If not, it’s still not good for the engine. It dumps excess fuel so it burns post ignition in the exhaust versus in the cylinder. This creates a big rise in exhaust temps. I imagine some of that excess fuel could wash the cylinder walls and end up in your oil pan.

Or maybe your neighbors will be laughing at you. Isnt a ghost cam like flashing money on social media but having to borrow money to buy some gas
haha. I hadn't thought of this scenario myself.

It's a fake chop like what actual aggressive cams would make, which may sound cool, but you'll always know it's fake. Then when someone at Cars and Coffee asks what cams you have in there, you have to tell them it's fake. No thanks.

There are many that have crackles and pops that have not touched the tune. My exhaust system crackles and pops with the h pipe and axle backs...6 speed tranny seems to do it more than the autos.

X pipe, Roush L1 tune & CAI, track mode does it.. 6 sp also helps cause driver has more control of shift points.

That cracker tune deal sounds like pre ignition on steroids ..

True. There are many factory vehicles that pop and blurble on stock programming. BMW is one example, the Focus RS is another. A stock GT will do it with the correct exhaust.

But they aren’t this :)

I agree. I don't care too much for that crackling and popping lol.

Not really, It fires off the ignition very late on the compression stroke so combustion continues on into the exhaust stroke. That's a rice krispies tune. Ghost cam just locks the cams at 'xx' degrees to get that 'potato potato potato' idle. As far as hurting anything, nah. Just your wallet.

100% correct. No rice krispies tune on mine. With my H-pipe and axleback it does it. Factory resonator has matting inside to suppress it, along with the mufflers. Get rid of that, and boom.. childhood memories of breakfast come roaring back haha.
