seems like you could fab a plate that went into the hole with a lot more meat.
this is how i did it on my 97 cobra. 2 rivnuts into the frame. before i stuck em in n dipped them in rustoleum so that after they bite and the paint dries it not only protects against corrosion but it acts like a glue.

I tried them too and ended up with the same result. Went with Redline struts, like I had on my 04 Cobra. I just put some touchup paint over the damage and have to live with it.

I went ahead about a week ago on a rainy day and installed the FP Hood Strut Kit. I hadn’t seen the negative reviews of them prior to installing, but I have now. My advice is steer clear of these hood struts, they’ve caused light to more severe damage to several peoples cars from the nature of the bottom bracket. I actually am one of the lucky ones because it hardly did anything to my car before I realized and removed the kit. Touched up the paint in the meantime, but going to have a local resto shop flatten out the holes and respray the area. Can only imagine what the serrated washer did on the inside of the hole, for sure going to address that upon dropping off the vehicle.

Ford Performance? I wonder which one is the best then? I wanna fo a hood strut kit in the near future.

I just checked my FP Strut Kit and it seems to be fine after a year or so.......no evidence of pulling upward as seen in OP's photos!!

I made certain that the lower attachment device was installed all the way forward in the fender opening since the lifting struts will naturally tend to push it forward....mine are still perfectly tight and aligned so I guess they're OK??

Mine was jacked up like that from the Ford Performance struts and I just covered it up with a redline set. Problem solved.

The FP strut brackets are total garbage. I purchased a set, and knew about all the issues (as I always read after I purchase 😒) and was able to dick around with them enough to get them successfully installed without damage. Never mind the crap bottom brackets, the top brackets are no better. The hood flex is absurd. Hindsight? Redline or similar. If anyone is considering the FP set, just look and compare the HOOD brackets between the two sets; it will be painfully obvious as to the superiority of the redline style 👍🏻
Thanks for the advice. I was about to order the FP and didn’t realize the damage they can cause.

Yup, Use the prop rod the car comes with. Problem solved. :like:
I did leave mine on but haven't used it since the install. The struts make lifting the hood easier and hold it noticeably higher without being in the way like a rod is.
The single advantage is that it's a no cost solution.

Can attest, love mine. I haven't received a single thing from Steeda I have ever had an issue with. And they have a lot of my money by now I am sort of ashamed to admit :handshake:
Keep it coming LMAO!!!
