Trying to get ForScan to work to read codes and having trouble now that it is running an AED Tune. Getting the error: “Unable to identify the vehicle - If PCM has a custom tune installed, please enter stategy/calibration name or part number of Factory PCM.”

According to the FOrScan forums, if I can get the PCM part # from the as-built file of the car, I should be able to get it to work. Anyone able to help a brother out?

Updating thread title and contents based on my answer:

When you get this code, you'll need to give ForScan your PCM #/Strategy since it won't be able to read it because of the tune. I found FR3A-14C204-FFA in my as-built file and it worked perfectly. I have a 2017 GT350

So the same part # that is commonly available, GR3A-12A650-BUA, did NOT work for me. What worked for me was: FR3A-14C204-FFA. ForScan now works with the car again. Yay!

What am I supposed to be looking for here. It's a file I download but cannot open.
It should output an excel file with the stock data codes for your specific car. All sorts of things that is done in FORScan. If you ever need to go back to stock values after monkeying around, this is where you find the codes.

So that is the particular strategy for your stock tune. Typically that should be downloaded from the car before any tune is flashed. Especially if it is locked by the tuning company. Maybe they have it.

I am not sure if you can get it via the web. You could reflash the stock tune and then try and connect via FORScan, but I've no idea if that will work.

Ok. This isn't particularly simple, but it will tell you what you're looking for.

First go to https://www.motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt and download the as-built file for your VIN. It's a complete list of everything that was in your car (electronics and programming) when it rolled off the assembly line.

Open the file in Excel. It'll complain a bit, just keep answering "yes" and it'll eventually give you the file in a spreadsheet view.

Now, on the side of the ECU in the car, there's a sticker with the manufacturer's label - Continental, probably - that has three part numbers on it. None of them are the one you're looking for. However, two of them will be on the same row in the Excel table in columns labeled F111 and F113, somewhere down near the bottom - it was row 737 for mine. In mine, the third number in the row, in column number F188, is the number you need (it's the same for me as it was for @honeybadger at the start of the thread).

And here's the label on the ECU itself with the F111 and F113 part numbers on it:

Happy hunting.

I really, really, appreciate your help. But, the file downloads with an ab. extension. I have nothing to open it. I change the extension to .xls and it's just gibberish. Not what your's looks like at all.

OK, I think I got it open using TextEdit. But, I don't know where the ECU is located. I know, I'm pathetic.

So, I found this at etis.ford.com.
Would the Assembly Part Number work?
