Hey guys, first let me say that my car runs and drives great. No issues, no BBQ tick, nothing except for this strange quirk only on cold startup. After the initial roar of exhaust, I get this what I can only call is a brief engine pause. It's not a miss-fire, it's a dropout or skip in the engine sound for less than a second. I do detect a very small drop in RPM but it is so brief it hard to say. And it never shows up until the next morning. I'm seeing this like 9 out of 10 times. The car has 16K miles on it. Nothing but Pennzoil Ultra Platinum on the oil changes. I don't track the car but I don't crazy baby it either. Like I said at the beginning the engine runs perfect otherwise.

Well when the engine initially free revs on startup, it has to stop and bring the revs back down to idle. What you're probably hearing is the ECU limiting the airflow shortly after startup to reduce RPM. The startup commanded airflow is more pronounced when cold and when the engine has been sitting off for a while aka "the next morning" as you mention. On subsequent startups when warm, it doesn't need as much airflow to start so this little hiccup is not as noticeable.

I get that also. On about half of the cold starts I notice it. A very minor skip as it idles down.
