I didn't get a chance to update this post over the weekend like I wanted to (steeda it's components took a little longer to install - truly great stuff though) but I still managed to get some research on the topic done. It seems that this is actually a viable project as far as the shifter design is concerned. Once you pull the reverse lockout collar off, there's a very nicely sized shaft to work with (see the boomba link below). We can even go so far to remove the entire reverse lockout assembly to rebuild it with a different style linkage like in the boomba link.

It also looks like some Honda boy has accomplished this concept in the same means I was planning to (see Honda boys link below).

I haven't gotten a chance to make a template but the template was going to be a visual update for you guys. I'm heading up to a local racetrack Saturday morning for some work shenanigans but I'm hoping later Saturday or Sunday I'll be able to make a template and take some photos.
