Dear fellow Shelby enthusiasts

Window sticker has been created for my base OW with blue stripes, YAY!! (Big thank you to fellow member - shelby_r.) This is my first muscle/pony/sport car and I have not driven any type of sports car for more than a day.

What are the things I should be mindful while driving? Any tips, guidance or useful information would be highly appreciated.

Is it helpful if I rent a mustang for few days and get familiar with it?

Currently I drive wrangler jeep, stick shift J.

Thank you!!

Exciting times for you! The hardest part maybe controlling the pedals to drive smooth accelerating and braking. However, if you want to learn how to drive properly, go-karts are a great start.

When I purchased the Boss 302 in 2013, I was 25 and had not owned a muscle car/fast car before then. I promised myself I'd spend 6 months being careful, there were times when I pushed it... but I can say these things will get away from you if you don't respect them. Stay out of situations that can get you in trouble - street racing, serious highway pulls, car meets (car shows are likely fine, just not thursday nights with high school and college guys!) etc. Learn the car and what it can do slowly - if you plan to own it for a while, there's nothing wrong with playing it overly safe for the first 6 months. Have fun!

P.S. The Shelby is very very easy to drive, it's very well composed - IMHO this is a great place to start with fast car ownership.

As said above, take time to learn the car and what it will do.
If you have the option of having a race track close by, consider signing up
for a high performance driving school. These are a great place to learn
some basics and normally quite affordable and great way to spend a Sat.

get use to the size, the car's visibility is not great.
get people to stand in front of the front corners so you have an idea where the bumper is

No need.

Currently I drive wrangler jeep, stick shift J.

Thank you!!
I drive my wife's Jeep Wrangler when I have to, which I don't like to do. ;)
++ for the Wrangler over the GT350...
1. easier to see out the back.
2. can go through deep puddles and go off road.
3. way easy to work on (on My honey do list).

bretlasalle sums it up best... super easy to drive!!
Visibility is actually way better than my Z, just not as good as our 2 Jeeps.

Pic of our Wrangler...

Careful power shifting at high RPM from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. The rear tires can break loose and get you sideways. Keep the electronic stability control on until you are fully used to the power.
In cold weather (below 50) the rear tires loose grip quickly. I see u r in Florida but some nights can get cold.
Try not to downshift when you're in a turn if the lower gear will spin the engine at high RPM.

I've been driving Mustangs and rear wheel drive V8's since I was 17. i remember most of my problems were weather related. The OP being in Florida kind of eliminates that problem.
The best advice as others have said is simply be responsible. Get a feel for the car in an empty lot on a bad weather day if you can. Enjoy!

AutoX is a great way to learn the limits in a relatively safe environment. The SCCA is a great starting point. Definitely agree with those who have mentioned that avenue.
