So I'm sure many of you have seen this post where if you pull Fuse 27, the fake noise from the EB is shut off. But it also renders your stereo dead.

Any idea if there is going to be some other way to get rid of the fake noise? Work around? Pulling a wire? After market?

Obviously some people might want to get rid of the engine noise but obviously want their stereo to actually work.

(Fuse 27 is going to become a hash tag ;))

If it's a completely digital system, I wonder if it can be disabled through the ECM, or maybe through a modified wiring harness to the TPS. I'm sure someone will find a work around, or at least I hope so, since this will definitely be one of the first mods I do.

Ya, I would speculate that they can turn it off by reprogramming the ECM. Whether or not you could get the service dept to do it is another thing. plus, it'll cost you > $50.

You could always negotiate that being turned off as part of the purchase...

They let journalists pull stuff out of the engine bay during the test drive? I can't imagine that going unpunished.

It figures the stereo would die as that's where the fake noise comes from. A stereo with built in static if you will. I think we can thank BMW for this as they are the first company I know of that did this-in their "M" cars no less.

Might as well keep my current car and buy an advertised device I once saw that plugs into your power point/lighter and replicates V8, V10, or V12(Ferraris). Just the ticket for your clapped out Hyundai!! lol!

Yea, this was by far one of my biggest complaints with my ST. It gets so frustrating on long road trips. That droning artificial engine noise is soul sucking when heard for hour upon hour with no end. I'd much rather enjoy the real sounds of the engine, even if it was a little quieter.

LOL

Sorry man, but for a reason that sounded hilarious :D

What you guys saying is, that the engine bay has some sort of mics to pass the sound from the engine bay to inside the cockpit using the factory sound system speakers?

Yes I believe that's how it works and it filters out certain noise and adds bass

It's not piped in fake noise, it's cancellation of unwanted frequencies. They're not adding, they're taking away, leaving the nicer parts of the 4 banger sound.

haha It is funny! My wife and I will be driving on a long trip, we'll have cruise control on, we'll just be coasting away and we'll look at each other with this mutual god-that-is-so-effing-annoying look. It's such a pain! I really wish Ford would just make it a software configurable setting in My Ford Touch. Give users the ability to choose when they want the sound and when they don't.

Essentially my understanding of it is exactly as you've said. They have something similar to a standard microphone within the engine compartment that then funnels particularly selected frequency ranges (the most "pleasing" sounding ones that make your engine sound throaty and awesome) and they pipe them in through the stereo.

The really funny part is that when driving around town your engine is all angry and buzzy like there's a bag of bees under the hood but then step out of the car and you're like, "Oh yea, it's a Focus!" and it's nice and quiet.

I dunno, it's a cute feature. I would just like to have control over when (if) I would like to use it without having to pull fuses or disconnect cables.
