So 435 hp is an uncontrollable amount of power that you must be protected from? The masses maybe, not me. Traction control is a great safety feature for day to day driving especially on wet pavement. I don't like being surprised when traction control decides that I need to be saved from myself.

That probably works most of the time.

I don't know if the S550's nannies can turn themselves back on, but I do know that the nannies on some cars already do exactly that (triggered by ABS activity indicating that you're about to need still more help).

I've driven my car through winter while using track+advancetracOFF (winter tires).

Y'all need to stop scaring all these people. If you drive responsibly, you'll be fine.

Ouch. Hope everything works out OK and you get your car looking like new again. For everyday driving, I see no reason to turn off TC. This is a good example of why.

Dang! Glad you weren't hurt bro. I'm surprized the bag didn't deploy. That SOB plowed a decent trench. Could have been worse if you'ed hit that culvert up ahead. Probably would have taken the wheel right off. What was the damage estimate if you dont mind sharing?

I got in a car wreck last year. Didn't get hurt but it does make you count your blessings. Dont be surprised if you're a tad spoked to get back on the Pony.

I'm sorry for what happened there.

But in the same breath I am going to tell you that there isn't a nanny on the planet that can create more tire grip than what the road, your tires, and anything that might be there in between them are providing at that particular instant. Physics > nannies, always, and what happened here was quite possibly beyond their capabilities.

Good question, I don't know. The technology is rapidly moving towards that goal, if it's not already there.

As long as he's driving responsibly and in full compliance with traffic regulations it shouldn't matter. Every car's owner manual contains text to the effect that the nannies are not substitutes for proper driving. Meaning that the driver is ultimately responsible either way, and really shouldn't find street situations beyond his skill level to cope with. Keep in mind that 2WD vehicles normally need to be able to turn at least the TC part off in order to get un-stuck.

If he's turned them off so he can do a burnout on the street (like the morons we've all seen videos of leaving the Cars & Coffee get-togethers) and something breaks or he loses control and hits something, that's a whole 'nother situation entirely (and 100% the driver's fault).

Thanks. That was my old 67 LeMans convert. I only have a couple out. The rest are packed away in photo albums. This was back in the late 90s when cell phone cameras weren't around much. Here's a couple after we dropped the 455 in.
