It's been a long wait for us all. But we finally have ALL the numbers for these cars. This is a breakdown of the GT350R production numbers and the rarest specs.

No surprise that the 2015 MY is the rarest year for the R's. However it's kind of surprising to see how 2016 is
the next rarest MY with 2017 being the most common.

Heritage Edition Wimbledon White - 281

I obviously have not included the Wimbledon White in with the regular colors for the R. To me the Heritage R was a special final edition package that included more than just a different paint color. These were the final GT350R's produced and should not be included when factoring color rarity. This is based on my own personal opinion and the market.

These specs are based on colors and stripes ONLY. This does not factor in anything else such as performance packages, black roof, carbon dash, ect.

GT350R Classes

I have the GT350R broken into 4 different classes. This is based on my prediction for the future not the current market.

#1: 2015 R's
37 built
Only 37 built. However, I must note that these cars are no different than the 2016 R's. But they made a limited amount of these in 2015 and you had to BE somebody to get one of these cars. One of these have not crossed a auction block since June of 2021. People who have them are not letting them go. When one does pop up, watch out. These will reset the market for these cars every single time they sell. All else will be chasing.

#2: Base R's
135 built
These are not only the rarest actual version of the GT350R, but it's also the most pure. With over 100 pounds shaved from removing the radio and AC, this one of the most track focused cars from any major company in the last 10 years. Name me another car that you could buy recently with no back seat, no radio, no AC, and a manual transmission only? The market has not caught up to these special cars, but it will.

#3: Heritage R
281 built
These cars are currently leading the market. Last year one sold for 180k. The average price at auction for a Heritage R sold in 2022 was 150k. These is the final edition to a special car and should continue to increase in value overtime.

#4: 2020 R's
422 built
This number does not include the Heritage R which is separate
Gen II motor. Upgraded block and steering. Final model year. The best version when it comes to technology and performance.


The rest will be sub classes based on specs and the Gen II motor in 2019.


What do you guys think about the 4 classes? Will the Base cars leapfrog the Heritage cars or am over-hyping them?
How do you feel about the Heritage Edition? The market has proven time and time again that it CAN be cosmetic packages that still bring in a premium. See the 2006 Ford GT Heritage for example.

Updated some production numbers from the 2017 cars. Some were incorrect. The final number are the same.

Velocity Blue with white stripes was incorrect. Changed to 19.
Ruby Red overall numbers had a typo. Changed to 82.
FPB and Avalanche order was backwards. Now fixed.

I ordered my 2020 GT350R in the fall of 2019 and it was actually being built in March of 2020 when they had the Covid shutdown. Car was completed the week the factory reopened in May 2020. My car is Kona Blue with zero options - no stripes, no black roof, no car cover, etc. A true zero option car. If I am reading the chart right in the other thread, my car is maybe a 1 of 2? Anyone able to figure this out?

Yes, correct. The reason a base R was offered was to provide the most track capable GT350R model that was allowed by law. The car still had to meet DOT standards, but anything non essential was eliminated where possible. Once the backup camera was mandatory, then that was the end of the base R. I own JR357, the second to last base GT350R produced. We have another cold snap coming in the next few days. It may very well be the last time I take it out until summer is gone and the weather cools down here in FL.

IMHO, the base R captures the essence of what the GT350R is supposed to be.... it is the most track capable of all the GT350Rs produced. But hey, down here in FL, you have to have AC in the summer, so that is why I have one for that too, lol.

I think you are largely spot on with the top four GT350R classes. I have for some time differed with the common opinion on the valuation views for the 2015 R models. I thought I would stir up the nest with the below take on things.

#1: Heritage R
281 built
Ford Performance out did themselves with the R-model Heritage Edition particularly when combined with the final year enhancements. This car is jaw dropping in appearance and pays homage at the highest level thus the reason that the CEO of Ford hoarded one for his own personal collection.

#2: 2020 R's
422 built
While the Heritage Edition definitely deserves its own special mention, all of the 2020 R-models are bad to the bone. For all the reasons that you mention, the Gen II motor, upgraded block and steering, final model year, the best version when it comes to technology and performance, etc. makes it a solid number two in my opinion.

#3: 2015 R's
37 built
This will likely be an unpopular opinion but just because they were the first 37 built as a symbolic nod to the 1965 R-models I don’t place them above the 2020’s for a lot of reasons. Appearance wise Ford did not choose to pay homage with these first 37 thus they are not standouts in their appearance. Couple that with their Gen I engine and lack of 2020 enhancements I do not place a value premium on a 2015 R over a 2020 R. If there had been a Wimbledon white 2015 R with guardsmen blue stripes and maybe a factory installed roll cage we would probably be talking a different order here, but Ford had wisdom and foresight to hold off until the end before playing that card.

#4: Base R's

While I view these as neat/special in their own way the 100-pound savings is not enough for them to be trumped by a Gen II 2020 R-model in my opinion. No special homage beyond the weight saving deletes. These cars have so much power that 100-pounds is arguably not enough of a performance enhancement on the street to give up the creature comforts, particularly an A/C in most climates.

Interesting take. But rarity is king. And even though there is technically nothing special about the 2015 R's, they were unobtainable when they came out. And they basically still are today. Hard to compete with that and there only being 37 made. I don't see those cars ever being lower than the top spot.

The 2015 GT350R will always be the most rare of the batch. I also believe they would bring the highest dollar amount. 37 built in 1 model year. You had to be very special to be offered one. This was the year that started one of the most successful sports cars ever built in this class.

The reason that their perceived value is not as high as the 20 HEP is because (as stated) owners are not letting them go and you don't see them being sold off.

The HEP prices at auction were a product of circumstance IMHO. Just like the rest of the auto industry, car prices went crazy. Suppy? Demand? Supply chain issues? Heck, people were paying $70 for an oil filter (remember)? Take the perceived rarity of the 20 HEP and compare it to actual rarity of the 15 R and ponder why the 20 HEPs were selling at record prices. First is exposure. The values of all cars went through the roof and people began to cash in with lots of listings on BaT. I don't recall seeing a 2015 R being sold in a long time. A lot of hype surrounded the HEP R and that seemed to induce a bit of a feeding frenzy around the forums which created a great deal of demand. I recall the introduction of the HEP and there was not a lot of immediate interest. For instance, my dealership is one of the largest in the country. They get multiple allocations for every specialty vehicle available from FP. They did not ask for, nor did they get any allocations for an HEP R.

Another observation I noticed. There was a spreadsheet here on the forum as the frenzy took off. There were HEP Rs that were not special order. Several members called some of those dealerships and were able to get them. They were dealership ordered cars with no buyers.

So the point I am trying to make is that the perception of the HEP vs 15R is not an apples to apples comparison. Lightning struck at the peak of the HEP values, but did not for the 15R, mostly because sellers weren't selling them.

HEP owners did not get one of these in the mail.

Honorable mention:

Shadow Black with Blue Stripes (3 different blue color stripes over the run)
2016 = 6 DIB
2017 = 6 Lightning Blue
2018 = 5 Lightning Blue
2019 = 6 Kona Blue
2020 = 3 Kona Blue

Black was the most produced color so it's interesting that only 26 were produced over the 6 year run.

As for the Base R package, yes, it's glorious from the factory. You can feel and hear the difference. No sound insulation matting throughout the car has a major effect IMO.
