2021 base, 3200 miles, 93 octane, I've noticed in the last few weeks of strange fuel economy issues. We've taken a few trips and we can get 20 to 21 mpg. Around town and such we 18 to 19 mpg. A few weeks ago we got gas and on the 20 mile trip home in normal driving I went from 17.8 clear down to 15.2. I've been in the hospital and my wife has notice that it seems to drop once we get down to half a tank and then the mpg jumps back up when we fuel up.

The evening it dropped to 15.2 driving was fine, but in the garage it was idling a bit different.

Any help is appreciated.

it may be a gas blend issue - in some states its different for winter/summer. not 100% on details but i know there used to be different formulas for the seasons

your issue might be the winter blend, not as efficient as the summer blend that might be the reason for your MPG drop.

I've driven mine on a number of lengthy trips and it can be a challenge knowing just how far you can go given the data provided on the dash. I wish Ford would keep it simple instead of trying to predict how I'll be driving and base their estimates on that. When on a trip and low on fuel, you tend to hypermile, not full-on throttle. That's where mpg estmates really matter. How much further you can go is always on your mind when traveling long distances in this car. Not complaining, just observation. And color me thankful I don't have to sit somewhere for hours waiting on a recharge while on a 1,000+ mile trip. Hell no!

My cars MPG have dropped across the board with winter blended fuels. always seems to be sometime in october they start. my 350R when from 13.5-14 around town to 11.9-12.5. Wifes ST and my F150 have had roughly the same average drop

Totally opposite here in NKY. Winter blends get me an increase in fuel mileage. But we did vote out emissions testing and now get a low polluting summer blend. I can see it in my data logs, summer gas caps out at 22 degrees of timing and the winter blend gives up to 29.

I must be getting old. I can't do a thousand miles anymore without charging my body overnight. :)

God bless NKY!!

The fuel economy is so bad on these cars that you can only go ~200 miles or so before you are scrambling for a gas station (sustained "excessive" speeds don't help). So you get numerous opportunities to crack your back, attend to the prostate Gods, do some stretches while emptying your wallet/entire bank account at the gas pump, and then get back on the road. Protip - the cheap granola bars they sell inside help with movement issues too. Avoid the lone, dried up and burnt hot dog on the rollers in the glass case next to the cashier.

Is the drop from it being colder out, and warming it up longer than you would in the warmer weather.
You might have just got a bad load of fuel.
But like others said, winter blend .
I lose 3mpg in the winter up north over warm weather. but that is part the fuel blend change and the warming it up in the colder weather that doesn't happen in the warmer weather. But that vehicle is a 5.7 hemi and is a pig on fuel to start with.

I would be happy with that !

Your 500 is drinking less US gallons per mile than my GT does with UK gallons ... :cwl:
