So I'm going down the highway and can hear a dull whopwhopwhopwhop that goes away when i make a sharp left turn so I figure a wheel bearing may be going bad. I get home, jack up the drivers side rear end and sure enough, the rear wheel has an excessive amount of play in it. Take it to Ford and tell them what's up and they say they will look at it. I get a call later that day and they say it's a bad wheel bearing and it's covered under warranty. Everything is looking good so far. So the service manager calls me the next day and says everything is good and ready to be picked up. Awesome, right?

Well, as soon as I pull out onto the highway and get up to speed, guess what? The dull whopwhopwhopwhop is still there. I have things to do so I just go home and figure I'll handle it the next day. So I get home and read the service sheet and they replace the "right" side rear hub/bearing. They obviously didn't even test drive it after they replaced it. I'm so frustrated that I gave in and just ordered a Timken bearing and figured I'd replace it myself. I've done everything to my cars myself for the past 15 years and have all the tools I need(but not all the ones I want :D). Anyways, I get started on it tonight and I can't get any lugnut off the car at all. Not one off the front or rear of the car. I think ford when nuts with their impact wrench on my car. I've tried my trusty HF Earthquake impact wrench (that took the crank bolt off an LS1 with no problem), a tire iron and a 2 foot breaker bar with absolutely no luck.

So I get my propane torch and put it on one of the lug for about 30 seconds. Welp, that heat softened the lug up enough for my impact gun to round it off. So this is going to make for a fun weekend.

I guess this is more of a post to vent than to look for advice but if you have any, throw it my way, haha. I'll be going around to tire places this weekend to see if anyone can get these things off. I don't think I'll go to that ford dealership anymore.

Vent over

Just had a similar issue with my 2015 GT/PP. Right front noise when stopping. Doesn't happen all the time. I have had it looked at a couple times while routine maint (quick lane) and always say pads, rotors fine. I've checked, they are fine. Took it in for service, nothing. Yet I know there was a TSB 15-0030, asked them to look, still nothing. I drive it the next day and guess what, dull sound is back. Not metal on metal or squeak or high pitch. Just a sound, dull tonal, upon stopping. It goes away and then comes back. Frustrating.

Sorry couldn't help you per say but I get the frustration ;) I guess I can offer you a hug? :) Just kidding.

I think I would of took it back to the dealer. I just had my rear passenger bearing replaced and no issues so far. I just switched dealers because of poor service at the place I bought it. The new place I know there top mechanic and request him to work on it. Kind of a pain in the ass because it's a decent drive but well worth it.

Not just Ford. I've had more than one lug torqued down (and cross threaded) to the point the lug stud sheared off when removing. Toyota.

tldr: take them fuck load of pastries for breakfast and be cool even though they fucked up.

Details:
depressed/tired/stressed out employee? (they are human just like me n you).

This works for me:
Go buy two dozen pastries or cinnamon rolls from nearest "real" bakery. I get about $50 worth of really good shit and order them cut n half if they are monster pastries like giant cinnamon rolls. Go for good stuff like baclava, etc. or jar nutella n dunkin cake donuts n apples.
Go early when fewer people there like 7AM-8AM.
Start w one box and just walk in work shop like you are supposed to be there and start w techs offering the loot. Ask if more techs in back and do what it takes to get in back n try meeting lots of techs, shop foreman, etc
If someone says you cant be back there just say you were told its ok just to hand out. If they say they want the box to hand out say you already promised to come back up front to service.
Kill off first box and then break out second.

Just be the chillest customer to everyone you meet n service. BS w people just a bit.

Be cool w service manager n just tell them you figure tech was having bad day.
Tell the service manager bout lugs n ask they only torque 120 so you can retorque to 145 per spec. (Get your own cheap split beam torque wrench and lug sockets now that you have a Stang). PM if you want an Amazon link.

Maybe ask if theres an empty lift they can check the wheel on real quick. Just act comfortable being on a shop floor n try and stick with the car to look at it with tech or service mgr.
Should be obvious which bearing is loose. Dont be a dick if its possible opposite side wasnt actually changed etc.
Try n be cool about looking at the studs for stripping and be cool if tech fucked the studs.

Prolly get u further than if you go apeshit over phone and go asshole at dealership.

All my major blowed up shits been fixed under warranty past 10 years n 3 dealerships various makes/models including two trans, diff, AC etc w extended powertrain given to boot. Used Focus w toasted/ragged trans x2, 09&14 Traverse, Whippled 15. Prolly spent over $400 on pastries but totally worth it. I ask service mgr if tech can drive car w me shotgun to "check for issues". I always put old oem rears on Stang n let tech drive n do burnouts w me in car before hand (they only get valet mykey w tcs locked on w lowest speed warnings). Do more burnouts after.

I do change my own hubs though cause its easy and need to be sure correct since car is tracked above 150. Only front left is stock. I just bring them used ones n they write it up n snag me one from parts lol.

@ sigintel .. you really know how to play the game .. sounds familiar .............some tech put 7 quarts of oil in my ecoboost engine . Free oil change . I just popped the hood checked the level and could see that it over full . Popped the trunk grabbed a wrench and drained a quart out on the driveway . Walked back in and let him know that there is an oil spill on the drive .. then I proceeded to the managers office to let him know I had to drain a quart of oil on his drive and it would need to be cleaned up ... why LSPI ...

.......................................................................The End .

 Looks like you have dealing with the service department down to a science. I think I'm gonna try a different dealership with pastrys in hand.

Most of my interactions with Ford dealers have been pretty frustrating so far between them forgetting to do state inspection on my car and fighting another dealer for a month to uphold a tire warranty (got a good deal on Ford tricare or whatever).
That said, I don't know why you spent ~$175 on a wheel bearing (really? Does money grow on trees...) that's covered under warranty. In the case that Ford actually over tightened your lug nuts significantly, what's to keep them from blaming you if one of your wheels pops off in a corner? It's pretty hard to significantly overtighten lugs from what I've seen but it's puts unneeded stress on the stud/wheel/nut. You have the right to be frustrated with dealerships being dumb as usual but have them fix the problem especially if it's under warranty....

Damn, what a waste of your time for a simple bearing replacement. To go back means additional time lost.
True how "we" can get most jobs done on our own for a lot less money and time. Wish I had all the tools.

Those service center powered torque wrenches have messed me up with some magnesium wheels in the past.

I would just have a loaner lined up from the dealership and let them keep the car as long as necessary and follow through with quality control.
My local dealer took 3 weeks to fix a pencil eraser sized rust spot but I had an F-150 loaner so all was good.

Ill join the vent party just a bit here and say while most any dealer service can be a bummer to deal with....Ford is some of the worst and god forbid its a transmission issue as every dealer in central Indiana is backed up for at least a month and is hiring for a trans tech. All my other cars were used before I bought my 2016 GTPP and I received superior service from every shop I ever dealt with for those older cars. If anyone was curious about the extended warranty with Ford ...Id pass and get a different service plan set up for your needs and Mod within the limits of what your working with. Between the cheap non leather steering wheel - bad paint/body alignment- trans that started whirring away inside of 500 miles - and horrid dealer service , Ill be hard pressed to repeat the new car experience with Ford. Will still be open to used mustangs in the future just not off a Ford dealer lot.

Even if it's inconvenient I wouldn't do it myself if it was under warranty. I would definitely take it back before I start jacking with stuck lug nuts. Any damage they do to them is free for you. Any damage from a time shop is yours to deal with.
