Hi all,

I've been keeping an eye on the forum for months, but been very inactive. My Mustang has arrived but waiting until 1st Sept to collect.

Has anybody had front parking sensors fitted on theirs? Any idea of how much these cost as an aftermarket option?

Cheers

Yes I had them fitted on mine and they work fine. Not integrated with rear sensors but they give peace of mind when parking or approaching obstacles.
X-vision fitted by Ford for £399

Was that from Ford? How do they look - are they flush with the bumper like the rear ones?

Any chance of a pic?
That would be my concern with aftermarket ones, do they look like they're factory fitted?

As you can see, they're perfectly fitted - integrated and colour-coded as well as the rears.

They look great! Do you have a button/switch to activate them? Or do they come on only with reverse?

Yes, a small black button integrated into lower right hand facia (a few inches below light switch dial) - very neatly done. It has a little red light inset that lights up when they're on. They only come on manually

I was thinking of having them fitted before delivery but dealer was not keen to fit Ford front parking sensors- salesman gave me a business card for a guy they recommended who could fit an automatic system for the front. So far haven't bothered & have managed ok (so far!).

My front parking sensors were dealer installed as per the 2016 Mustang Price List which shows dealer fitted Xvision Parking Distance Sensors, front (fitted price) 1935219 £399.00 (Page 8)

The install is 4 sensors on the front bumper and are all colour coded to my Shadow Black Mustang 5.0 V8 GT Auto.

The front parking sensors turn on with the ignition. Mine are very sensitive and even a low curb will make them beep intermittently so I usually press the button to switch off. They will also switch on if I put my auto into some combination of Park/Drive/Reverse but I haven't worked out exactly what. They also switch off by themselves after a few minutes/miles of driving.

The front parking sensors are good for checking how close to parallel park and also when turning to avoid the front corner of the car swiping another car or obstacle. If I need them for parking then I press the button turn on and they will usually straightaway start beeping intermittently and as I approach the docking area they go into continuous tone and I then I know that I have a few more inches before a full stop.

I do wish that they were a bit less sensitive so that I could get closer before the intermittent beeping starts followed by a continuous tone. I did look at the module but I can't see anything to adjust.

The installation involved a fuse tap in the engine compartment fuse panel and another fuse tap in the passenger compartment fuse panel. There is also a splice into the wiring loom down by the fuse panel.
Engine Compartment Fuse 44, 15 Amp micro, Vehicle Power 4
Passenger Compartment Fuse 36, 15 Amp, Auxiliary body module

To my mind it is a fairly major install and must have required the bumper to be removed and also to remove the driver side wheel arch trim to get a wire through the grommet and into the passenger compartment. I can't even trace the wiring in the engine compartment. Many people complain about the high installation costs but if you go for 3rd party kit then do you trust a non Mustang approved product fitted by someone who has never seen a Mustang before?

The Ford dealer fit parking sensors comprise 4 sensors on front bumper and are very discrete

The fuse tap wiring is very untidy - the fuse tap actually fell out when I looked at it

Obviously, this conflicts with my experience - I thought that they were manual and needed to be switched on (and that the switches' inset red light always indicated activation). I must have been be wrong and they can come on without the red light coming on too, e.g., when reversing (that said, there's a cacophony of beeping when reversing, so it's hard to know!).
