I'm sad for Seb but very disappointed in the team. They know the rules and didn't follow them. F1 had no choice as they have to test the fuel and there wasn't enough to test. I also hate "Fuel Racing", and see it in NASCAR and Indycar all the time. It has never really been a big issue in F1 and hopefully it stays that way. Refueling in F1 is just to dangerous.
The fuel rule has been in effect for some time. Every team/car gets tested. And it’s not nonsense, teams have been caught in the past for even less. Of course you can play devil’s advocate and say the car burned more fuel than expected and that they weren’t trying to game the system. That said, they knew they were screwed which is why they had Seb stop immediately after the checkered flag.My biggest problem with the “rules” and the FIA is they aren’t enforced equally at all times. The reality is there not enforced with any consistency at all. I have no doubt some of that is put in just for the sake of being able to change things when they deem “necessary”. One thing that I didn’t see mentioned is if every car gave a liter sample. As for Aston Martin not following the rules, that’s complete nonsense in my book. Not one of those teams would intentionally jeopardise a result over a few ounce’s of fuel. I really enjoy racing and want it decided on the track, not by some pinhead with a title. Rant over.
Hello; It has been years now since the fuel amount used in a race had a limit. Same for the hybrid gas/battery system. A slight nod to environmental ideas. Make racing at the F1 level appear to have a save the planet aspect. They have what are called power units now.The fuel rule has been in effect for some time. Every team/car gets tested. I have not checked into it to see if the technology used in F1 power units has spun off useful bits that can be applied to everyday life. Maybe it has, let us know.
Unleash the beast again. Give up naturally aspirated V-8' again. I could even stand the scream of a V-10 again. When the turbo/power units first came about the best sound was the V-8 from the safety cars.
Hello; I only heard the V-10 in person. They were an ear splitting scream.I’m with you, there is no comparison in the sound from the previous V8’s to the hybrids. I was really surprised how different the sounds were from the two different platforms when I heard the hybrids in person when they first came out.

F1 limits the mass of fuel (110kg) and the maximum burn rate (100kg/hr) for a race.Hello; It has been years now since the fuel amount used in a race had a limit. Same for the hybrid gas/battery system.
Hello; Yes the amount as measured in mass. Some years ago teams were mixing up exotic fuel mixes. A special mix for qualifying for example. Best as I recall the fuel is supposed to be standardized now. May be mass is the simpler way to check the fuel. May be that since weight/mass is so critical is all other areas of F1 they just think in mass.F1 limits the mass of fuel (110kg) and the maximum burn rate (100kg/hr) for a race.
Agreed. But who in the AM pit ever imaged Seb would be battling for a race win. They knew what they were doing. They took their chances and lost. I give them a “gold“ for effort.Vettel must have used fuel at a burn rate too high to stay in second place.
