I guess I never really paid much attention but this is our air inlet. Just imagine getting a plastic bag or a leaf stuck in the inlet while on the freeway. Your heart would drop thinking you just lost your motor.

It's actually much bigger behind the grill - that's just the portion that is visible. If that small area were to become blocked, the area behind the grill would still allow airflow, just not direct cold air "ram" effect.

Some of us have opened the grill to expose more of the inlet funnel (hat tip to @Epiphany.... that's his bumper cover in the bottom photo which shows the additional open area better due to the natural light behind it).

Yep - here's a "before" pic.... the second pic above is the "after" shot.

The red is just on the pic to represent the area that was cut out - it was not on the actual part.

Compare to your pic in the OP and you'll see the blank area.

Interesting. Did you notice an improvement or was it just for peace of mind?

Well, I also fabricated a cover for my air box and need to revise it to actually bolt it down. The force of air into the box is such that it is pushing the lid up off it's mounting point.

While I realize that the intake and throttle body can only take in so much air, it appears that the airbox is certainly getting a surplus, so the engine has all it needs..... and it's all cool air from the front of the car.

The Mule has lots of other similar small mods and given that it runs cool and fast, I'm going to say that the sum of those is a success.

To see details on all those mods, check out the full thread at: https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/obsolescence-to-obsession-–-tales-of-the-rented-mule-fprs-gt350-track-attack-14.168923/

LOL well been there and done that... not on the mustang though. Happened on the Viper.

The front of the Viper is like a vacuum and sucks everything up. One day a Safeway plastic grocery bag made its way through the gaping maw of the Viper and got stuck around one of the duel air filters.

Wasn't driving hard at all but I did notice that I didn't see the plastic bag floating around after I passed by... a few weeks later I was playing with the dangly bits underneath the car and happened to pop the hood and found it. Was rather comical to me but it could have been bad if I was out for a more spirited drive.

This is a 2023 GT, there appears to be a large open area, but I may be mistaken, I am going by this photo only, correct me if I am wrong.

On the 350, it's literally only where the emoji is. Maybe the same on a Mustang?
