1st thing i checked when it came through the door weeks ago
Mine was registered against the same date as collection date - 24th December which was a Saturday! So I presume it's possible for dealers to do the paperwork in advance? Or is it online nowadays?

This still won't be good enough. A lot of people waited with resale in mind too.
True... But it's a minimum maximum is they go balls to the wall and he can sue.

Im not sure if we have legal people here but they've not only missold him his vehicle, they've also taken money earmarked for something else in written agreement and breached the contract between that.

I don't believe there's anything underhand gone on here. The people who do the paperwork at car dealers aren't disillusioned rocket scientists; they've just massively screwed up.
Question is, what are they going to do about it...

The longer it goes on, the harder it is to remedy - I'd just take the thing back and leave it (literally) up to them to sort out.

That said, I had the option of waiting and didn't, because in the big scheme I don't care about the money/tax side of things so they can at the VERY least give you that overpayment back.

I would bet my house on this being exactly as Steve (the other one!) described; someone just screwed up somewhere. Whether that was the actual salesman, one of the admin staff, someone at the DVLA etc etc may or may not ever be known, the only issue remaining is what are they going to do about it?

If the DVLA are willing to change the date then fine.

If not, the only realistic option is rejection as the car falls into one of the three categories for rejection, that being not as described with the other two being not fit for purpose or not of reasonable quality. Ask me how I know ;). The only issue is rejection is not an automatic certainty as we're over a month down the line which complicates things slightly.

I can't see the dealer wanting to reimburse the extra VED for as long as OP owns the car PLUS the drop in resale which will be very hard to quantify.

My guess is either the dealer will say see you in court or they'll take the car back and offer to source another with some form of compensation.

All in all a crap situation to be in.

Possibly yes, but, they still took his 880 for the extra VED, and should have realised when it'd been taxed that they didn't pay more?

Interested how that unfolds.

Depends on their in-house processes.

More than possible the person doing the registering was not the person OP had the tax convo with, had no knowledge of the new tax rules, that OP had paid extra specifically, or the amount OP had paid. Simple miscommunication.

The fact cars still have their bumpers drilled and/or get washed with a gritty sponge despite explicit instructions not to means something like this should come as no surprise.

Still, some compensating, he's been out of pocket 880 for a month, and is going to be out of percieved pocket 300+ odd quid every year ontop of it.

Another small update.....

So I just spoke to the dealer principle, he was very apologetic but said they should be able to get it amended with the DVLA. It's a bit of a drawn out process as the request has to come form Ford HQ, so the dealership have to submit the request to them first.

He did say it's something they've done before and got reg dates amended, so fingers crossed it can be sorted. It does take a few days though, and he said they wouldn't get a response form the DVLA until early/middle of next week.

That's promising news, glad to hear it. Hope they throw in a free service or something for the trouble they caused.

That is assuming you would actually take it back there for a service!

Yes, and it says "there is no dealer error", which in this case there clearly is!

So I'm not getting my hopes up! Thanks anyway though,
I don't know who your dealer is but judging from your address it may be Ashton Gate in Bristol, if so they had a major bollocking from Ford UK over the errors made in my order and that came from the very top when I politely laid it on thick in an email directly to Andy Barratt. It's definitely worth escalating as although Ford UK said it was a dealership issue Trustford are owned by Ford and I was compensated on the day Ford UK directors paid them a surprise visit.

I took out a mortgage and paid more for my first (and previous) house than I paid for my Mustang (with a debit card). For buying a house there are local authority searches and solicitors involved with exchange of contacts and finally completion. How come we don't go to so much trouble for car purchases? :)

Don't be suggesting that now...solicitors involved in car purchases to ensure it's not parked on top of an old indian burial ground ;)

I think there are too many people involved in the sale of a car. There was no need for my sales man whatsoever. He just got in the way really. Would have quite happily ordered it from my phone and have it delivered to my house
Most of us on here wouldn't have needed a dealer :ninja:
