I'm sure I heard somewhere that you could register ther day before but tax would run from the 1st. Of course I can't find the reference but fingers crossed.

Unless I'm missing something surely this is a financial issue and you can be compensated accordingly. If they won't play ball then small claims is easy to do.

I took delivery on the 1st April and was also concerned to make sure they didn't register it in March. The dealer asked me if I wanted Ford's insurance free for the first week to which I declined. They said I must provide a certificate of motor insurance to tax the vehicle. I provided them with this a few days beforehand and the certificate stated cover started on 01/04 so they couldn't register the vehicle in March. They registered the vehicle on the Friday with the DVLA with Saturdays date. This is not unusual, they're used to doing this when new reg dates coincide with weekends. They must have insured the vehicle to tax it. I would be absolutely livid. They are in breach of contract and have committed fraud as far as I can see.

Sounds like you are in the right there. I would say Ford either need to sort out the date with the DVLA (long shot) or compensate you for their balls up.

Don't take it out on the poor Mustang, take it out on whoever is to blame for the situation you find yourself in.
You've obviously waited a long time for this car, personally if I exchanged it the replacement wouldn't feel quite as special. I'd go for financial compensation if the DVLA aren't prepared to redo the paperwork.

Got a morbid curiousity for how this is going to be sorted cos i have no idea how they're going to do it, but it HAS to be done to the satisfaction of the customer. When you spend nearly £40k with a company the least they can do is give you what you paid for.
Best to keep the powder dry though until the dealer has the opportunity to sort it out.

Given that sales staff can't even be bothered to remember exactly what options are available, I don't think it's unreasonable to assume the person doing the registering was completely unaware of the new tax rules at all, or at the least, their impact on the Mustang, and therefore just stuck it in to make their numbers up for that quarter/month.

That said, what kind of a retard taxes a car on the last day of the month?! :frusty: Is it possible the dealer sent the paperwork off and the DVLA were unusually efficent and got it processed super-quick? Or does the dealer have to fill in the specific date somewhere?

If I were to guess (which is what we're all doing), I'd say you're going to end up handing it back.

The DVLA aren't going to change the DoR; the dealer isn't going to compensate you X000's of pounds for the extra yearly tax payable as neither of you knows how long you'd keep it.

That said, they'll probably offer you something since that car will be a bastard for them to shift precisely because of the tax thing. Whether or not it will be adequate is debatable. :shrug:

I reckon best you'll get is an offer to source another car with a service plan thrown in.

This is what I am hoping.

Car was registered on 31 March, but wasn't actually taxed until 1 April. In fariness to my dealer, it could be a cock up at the DVLA.

I will update once I've spoken to my dealer.

My car arrived at the dealer in early March, so it was left standing for about 3 weeks. Hardly months.
