Ford Racing Parts Releases TracKey And Track Cal For Boss/GT Owners

Remember the awesome TracKey engine calibration that Ford offered on the 2012-’13 Boss 302? Well, now it’s available to the general public for the 2014.5 manual-transmission-equipped Mustang GT. It features the same special key as the Boss design and enables special performance calibrations to the engine management system. It must be dealer installed and can be purchased under part number M-14204-MGTTKA for the 2014.5 Mustang GT. It’s still available for BOSS owners as well, using part number M-14204-MBTKA.

The TracKey changes more than 200 engine management parameters, increases low-end torque, and adds the two-stage launch control feature like what’s used in the Cobra Jet race car. Even the idle is more aggressive – the variable camshaft timing, spark maps, engine braking, fuel control and other parameters are all tweaked to give the driver a better experience behind the wheel. The best part? Simply switch back to the standard key, and the car’s back in daily-driver mode.

Also now available is the Track Cal option for 2013-’14 Mustang owners. sold under part number M-14204-MGTTC. The Track Cal offers the same type of performance enhancements, but is installed using Ford Racing’s familiar Pro Cal flash tool – it does not come with a separate ignition key. The Track Cal alters the same types of engine parameters as the TracKey – but the lopey idle characteristics can be turned off.

Gains of up to 60 pound-feet of torque at 1500 RPM and 16 horsepower and 7 pound-feet are available at the peak using the required 93 octane pump fuel.

Both the TracKey and Track Cal are 50-state legal for the 2013-14 Mustang GT with manual transmission. The 2014.5 (after 7/1/13 build date) GT’s can use the TracKey only. Track Cal has an MSRP of $559 while the TracKey carries a $425 pricetag, plus whatever your dealer charges to install it. Solid pricing when you consider the fact that these calibrations have been optimized by Ford’s own engineers.

So what do you think M6G? Is this something you'd like to see on our 15s?

I just don't get why its not available on the Auto. Love manuals, but there are reasons I went Auto and can't understand why PP and Trackey not on the auto.

I dont own a current 5.0. What increases are you guys seeing with intake/exhaust and tune?

I don't look at peak numbers as much as the area under the curve and overall driveability. Generally guys are seeing about 20hp peak gain but as much as 35-40hp in the midrange with about the same amount of torque. I have no idea how this new engine will respond within the same RPM range as the current Coyote, but I know in the upper RPM ranges it will clearly pull ahead with its bigger cams and freer flowing heads.

I just don't get why its not available on the Auto. Love manuals, but there are reasons I went Auto and can't understand why PP and Trackey not on the auto.

The auto trans requires specific tuning in addition to the engine itself and it's an area that Ford Racing might not be willing to venture. Auto tuning is twice the work as tuning a car with a manual trans.

Since the car is push to start, I'm going to assume there will be a "track" mode or some sort of setting already in the computer since there is no actual key fob that will be physically inserted into the car. I do not see them making a "track" fob for something that wirelessly allows the car to know you are there, if you were to have both keys around or maybe one inside the house and one in your pocket, I could see the car getting confused. That is just my thought.

:thumb down: Agreed. This is nothing more than programing and authorization. Since you can now program up to 4 key fobs yourself (via the built-in MyKey system), if Ford is going to allow access to this level of performance mapping, then there is no reason to charge anyone anything more for this functionality; unless, of course, they are just looking to boost the bottom line by "allowing" you access to these pre-programed performance maps for a price. Considering the community, and the fact that they have been touting the performance potential of the vehicle, they should just include it with the Track Apps package and be done with it. If you want anything more, then you could go for a custom tune.

Track Key would be a waste for me too. Our car is getting a real tune and a JLT cai, off road midpipe, and an MGW shifter as soon as they are released.

I'll also be anxious to find out if removing the cmrc in the intake will be as effective on these cars as it was on the 3V 4.6's.

Do any of you know whether the Bama Tunes etc have the lopey idle that is part of the track key/Ford custom tune package? Heard it on the Boss (track key) - sounds delish.

I'm prolly going to get a Bama or custom tune anyway as I plan on going headers/CAI/catbacks and wanted to leverage them as much as I can on 91 octane.

Clearly things that normally would not pass smog in 1930's germany still won't pass smog, but assuming everything else is "smog friendly", would getting a tune (like with a smog legal in california CAI and exhaust) still be smog legal in nazi germany/california?

I'm trying to figure out how much power I can add and still keep my car for the next 10 years in the most car unfriendly state in the union.

This is just a guess, but I'd think a tune would make it even better. They run kind of rich from the factory and a tune will lean it out in various places within the torque curve, so I'd think you'd have less pollution leaving the tailpipe.

A stick is easier to tune, MUCH easier from my 3 tuners experience. If you don't use AED or a similar quality tuner (Mike Rousch for autos), and especially if you need some warranty or hassle free tuning, the track key sounds like that would be right up your alley imo.

Because of my experience with the '13 auto, the track key for my late 14 GT M6 sounds like it would be my last shot at trying tuning.
