Yeah saw this too. Definitely a hard pass if this is fords “manual” transmission for the S650. I can’t imagine the electrical nightmare that this would rely on.

I doubt we will see it in the s650 and probably we won’t ever see it, at least I hope so.

It sounds like a slightly more complicated slap shift setup, as others have said if it’s an “auto clutch” would rather a full blown automatic or dct.

Only the human brain can determine best movements between the left & right foot and the right hand if the transmission is truly a manual. When I'm in the middle of clutch engagement into the next gear, whether going up or down, and suddenly have the need to accelerate quickly, my right foot and left foot subconsciously coordinate with each other to prevent a clutch-burning slip event when I hit the gas. I see a computer not reacting as quickly to that scenario and burning a clutch up in no time. This is just one example of why this lame-brained idea won't work.

BTW, this is not the first we've seen of this nonsense. Saab tried it, and it was featured in Road and track or Car and driver years ago, and actually malfunctioned during the road test.

It's a patent application nothing more. I am sure Ford files many per year.
