Hey guys. So I recently got a bunch of fix it tickets. One being window tint on my front two windows. Normally we have to take it off and spend another $100 or so to get it back on after it’s signed off. I was talking with a cop, and found that it’s technically legal to have it signed off once you remove the two side windows from the door completely, since you will then not have any more tint. There is also no law I could find that prohibits you from not having two front side windows. I actually tried this out yesterday, and the police department had no problem signing off my fix it ticket.
Just wanted to let you guys know this little trick to save you the money from having to retint your windows, as long as you don’t mind spending the effort taking the windows out!

That is really helpful. I just got a fix it ticket for my tints, license plate, and exhaust. So for my tints how do I completely remove the window?

You no what the simplest solution is? Don't put tint on the side windows that is darker than the regulations.

This is totally ridiculous. You folks would remove the windows completely just to get around a law? How many times, at night, has that heavy tint helped your vision? Yeah, that's what I figured...

CA law states that we can’t have any tint at all, which most people don’t follow anyway due to the Southern California summers.... hence the reason for me posting this

Who cares if someone would rather spend an hour taking out a window than spending an extra hundred bucks? You could either spend the time taking the window out or find the fuse/switch that controls the door panel switches and just unplug it when your window is rolled down... same end result. Lol.

You say that like tint is only used at night. Keeps interior cool, changes the entire look of the car with the windows up and makes driving during the day much more comfortable in the Cali sun. I could not drive a vehicle without window tint.

Its not for night use, its for day. Tint helps preserve the interior, keeps the leather cooler, keeps the car from heating up while driving during the day etc.

Idk about removing my windows lol Peel the tint off, get it re-tinted whatever no biggy. CA law says the sides and front window cant be tinted. From front windows back, you can go as dark as you like.

Fun info. Back in the day my dad was a Cop, and many police departments came to him wanting to push this tint law. He "a higher ranking cop" said no its ridiculous to pass this law. Most PD's disagreed with him, and here we are today.

I thought you could have any tint that allows for 70% light transmission in Kalifornia.

You can tint the back windows and back side windows as dark as you want. You can't tint the front drivers and passengers windows as well as the windshield at all

This is true. Luckily no one seems to care in my area.

Well, after 2.5 years of owning my car with tint all the way around I finally got pulled over. Funny thing is, as soon as I got off the freeway in West Covina the cop was ticketing some other guy. When I rolled by, the officer waved me down and asked me to pull over. Long story short, he got me for tinted windows and I now have to remove tint on both front windows and windshield. And yes, I will be putting the tint back, like others have said not only does it protect the interior, but it makes driving a lot better and keeps the glare down from other cars. I work all day under the sun, the last thing I want is to jump into bumper to bumper traffic with the sun burning me while sitting in traffic. Honestly, I really don't agree with this law but it's something we have to deal with. I've been driving for about 15 years and this is the second time I've been ticked for tinted windows. As long as they are not too dark, most cops leave you alone.
